1. Evangelism: the first major name of mission studies is derived from Greek verb
“Evangelies” “ ”, which occurs 5 times in the new testament. It
means to announce to proclaim, to preach etc. Act. 5:42, 8:35, 11:20. The term
“Evangelism” is eventually derived from the Greek noun “Evangelismos” which had
following distinct meanings, glad tiding or the preaching of the Gospel, Annunciation
means declaration (proclamation) evangelistic. It was coined is the 17th century but was
never widely used until the middle of the last century.
2. Evangelization: The term was found from the Latin noun “ ” and
coined in the 17th century. In 1889 it become well known as the students Valentine
movement for foreign mission used it as a watchword. The popular terminology like he
evangelization of the world in this generation given a central place in mission thinking.
The evangelization of the word in the generation of the word means the act of giving all
human being an adequate opportunity of knowing Jesus Christ as their savior and make
them his "real” disciples.
After the second world was “Evangelization” as a term was clearly propagated by
both Lursane Committee for world evangelization and the R.C Church. There after many
R.C publications used this term moreover in 1947 the senate of Roman Bishop met to
discuss on this particular topic “Evangelization” in the modern world. R.C Pope Paul VI
promulgated the Apostolic exhortation Evangelic which status evangelism means
brining the good news to all the state of humanity through it’s influence transforming
humanity from with in and making it new.
The very use of the term “Evangelism” or “Evangelization” has come to the four in the
church thinking roughly last 150 years. To some extend this has followed the wide
spread use “The Evangelization of the word in this generation. However there is no
conscious among the people in different Christian tradition about the relation of
evangelism to mission.
Evangelism is a process that happens and therefore can best we discuss by the use
of a verb. If the underlined through is Good News, then what is normally done with news
is to share it, as announce it, spread it, or announce it. The primary emphasis is an
communication and an especially important peace of information, declaring it to be true
and relevant probably, the most famous definition of all basics our this sense of passing
on a life giving peace of News. Evangelism therefore a witness to Christ his saving
activity to the whole humanity. Some one once said that ‘one beggar telling another
beggar where to get food?’
In the Orthodox tradition the world witnessing to testify are often used for
evangelism. Thus, evangelistic witness here to understand to communicate of Christ to
those who don’t consider themselves as Christian a call to salvation, which means the
restoration of God and humanity.
Evangelism is about witnessing too (or) making known Good News, the
immediately needy question is what is the news that is good. Most people would point
immediately with action, which God has achieved through the Christian to benefit of all
students. Announcing that God is creator and Lord of the universe had personally
intervened in human history and has done a supreme act through the person and ministry
of Jesus of Nazareth who is the Lord of history. Savior and liberator. Therefore through
Evangelism people are invited of accept for themselves the good news that through Christ
their sin is forgiven. It’s power over their life and broken and they are restored Lord life
giving fellowship with God. Evangelism might be understood them as spreading the
good news that in Jesus Christ. God is establishing a new order of life and calling people
to renounce or alternatives and embrace this reality.
Evangelism is, therefore, on the other hand condemning the sin and inviting the
‘Sinner’ to believe in their good future, that one can acquire through Jesus Christ. So
through evangelization has both can inductive and imperative. It is both convey of the
message and a challenge an act in a certain way. In a response to the message content,
there are various ways which the invitation may be made also ready to Matt. 11:28-29
“Come… learn from me” - explains salvation in terms of refreshment, liberation, a new
direction and a new understanding of a life that a person acquire through Jesus Christ.
Evangelism is an invitation to people to handover their life to Jesus Christ, giving the
reasons, why this is such a supreme important to take.
The response their invitation to required to term back to is false way of life all
renouncing evil. (I Thess. 1:8; Acts 26:18)
It can be viewed from God’s hand of view as the creation of a new life in the image of
Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 3:18)- the restoration of the glory lost as a result of sin (Rom 3:23) as
it can e viewed from the human Evangelism is its view brings total transformation which
knows not bounce the central aim of ‘The Great Commission’ is making disciples which
includes simultaneously practicing left and righteousness that is upholding justice
following in the way of Jesus Christ is an integral aspects of evangelism an proof of
authenticity.
The goals of evangelistic witness is conversion of a person from a life
characterize by sin, separation from God, submission to evil and the unfulfilled potential
of God’s image to a new life characterize by the forgiveness of sin obedience to the
commandment of Gods, renewed fellowship with in the trinity, growth in the restoration
of the divine image and the realization among us of the prototype of line of Christ more
briefly the final goal of evangelistic witness is conversion and baptism conversion is a
willful turning from sin death and evil to true life in God. Baptism is the reception of a
new member into the life of community of God’s people, the church.
The message of Jesus Christ must be passed on; In today’s contact the message of
the gospel is distorted and people are looking for a real meaning in evangelism the life
and work of Jesus Christ which would lead one to salvation should be depicted without
taking his real meaning our powerful motivation of evangelism is the positive conviction
the Jesus Christ is the centre and goal of world history everyone born into this world has
a right to know why Jesus Christ came to this world and what he achieved.
This term is derived from the Gk. Verb apostalin which means send (outer/forth)
which occurs 131 times New Testament (Matt. 10:5, 16; Lk. 22:35; Rom 10:15, I
Cor.1:17) The Greek noun Apostle occurs four times in N.T (Acts 1:24-25, Cf. Rom 1:5;
I Cor. 9 : 2; Gal 2:8) The Greek noun Apostles which occurs 79 times in N.T refer to one
who is sent that is envog, ambassador, delegate, messenger, missionary etc. (Acts. 4:33,
Rom 11:13).
According to the term Apostola and Apostolic are easily misunderstood and
therefore must be used with caution but this doesn’t there rejection. Calvin a important
figure and reforms has noted that Apostolic and the office of evangelists are not
permanent rather they were utilized by Christ to established his church nevertheless God
can subsequently raise Apostles evangelist for a special task but for him such cases are
very unusual as per church order off the Netherlands formed church there are two
supplementary and complementary parts for the Apostolic one is the local Apotolate that
is evangelism the other aspect is the sending which means the mission is the more
tradition sense it is the evangelistic beyond the congregation.
Evangelism and mission are the their poles of the Aposolate. Here theory of
evangelism and theology the Apostolate are considered as a synonym of theology of
mission.
