1. Provide 2 - 3 examples each of what you can do to show humility/ honest and
helpfulness in taekwondo (20 pts.)

Humility
Since Taekwondo adopts Korean culture, utmost respect is seen during trainings and
even before sparring. And since I told you I’ve enrolled to taekwondo sessions for years,
I’ve experienced this personally.
 Everyone is expected to take a bow to someone who has higher ranks than you.
 In sparring, you have to take a bow before your opponent.

Honesty
 You have to put into mind that taekwondo is only for self-defense and not for
offensive attacks.
 You have to do as you’re told by your coaches.

Faith
 Remember that if you can help the oppressed by your skill, you have to try your
best to do so.
 Keep in mind that your faith and complete confidence about what taekwondo
thought you must be upheld through time.
 In cases of combat, try not to initiate assault.

2. Do you think taekwondo is a sport or a martial? and why? (5 sentences) (30 pts)

To be able to identify whether Taekwondo is a sport or a martial, we have to

define both terms first and determine where taekwondo fits in. According to
ScienceDaily, “Sports is all forms of usually competitive physical activity which,
through casual or organized participation, aim to use, maintain or improve
physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in
some cases, spectators,” while according to Wikipedia, “Martial arts are codified
systems and traditions of combat practiced for a number of reasons such as self-
defense; military and law enforcement applications; competition; physical, mental
and spiritual development; and entertainment or the preservation of a nation's
intangible cultural heritage.” As we can see, both definitions suit the role of
Taekwondo. However, as I was searching, I found an article regarding “martial
sports” which ensembles Taekwondo better. It is about both realistic and counter-
productive trainings, lethality; and reflective movement with full-power application
while operating at the limit of physical and psychological skill.

3. For students like you, how can physical activities at home be carried out in times like
this (Outbreak situations)? In your own little way, how can you promote this? Why?
Explain.
(30 pts)

Students during this pandemic are either on their phones, studying hard, doing
household chores, or are suffering from lack of resources to sustain their families’
needs. I think physical activities can be carried out during one’s free time. After reading
a chapter, maybe, of your lessons, you can search for simple routines on the internet
and mimic it. However, if you do not have access on the internet, you can improvise
your own exercise sequences. Since we are restricted from going out, I can promote
physical activities through social media. A lot of vloggers and bloggers are posting
about how their days go by, and parts of it include exercising. Most probably, a student
like me can do it too if I have the resources to do so. Anyway, all I’ve said won’t work if
someone is unwilling. So, these only apply to people who want to and are capable of
pursuing physical activities during quarantine.
