The Following Server and Services will be installed in your Structural

Organization.

1. DNS (Domain Name System)

2. Active Directory Services (Domain Controller)
3. File Server

SERVER 1: DOMAIN CONTROLLER

Active Directory Services

Active Directory is the integrated, distributed directory service that is included with
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows 2003 Server. Integrated with
Active Directory are many of the applications and services that previously required a
separate, distinct directory and user-id/password to be managed for each application or
service. In Windows NT 4.0, for example, a directory was required for the domain itself,
a separate directory for Exchange mailboxes and distribution lists, and separate
directories for remote access, database, and other applications. In some cases, separate
passwords were required for each application. With Active Directory, the administrator
of the organization can add a user to Active Directory and through that single entry
enable remote access to the network, enable the same user account for Exchange
messaging, that same user for database access for accounting, client relationship
management, or other applications. Not only is it possible to use Active Directory as a
multi-purpose directory in this fashion but by doing so a company enables single sign-on
for its users. Once a user logs in to Windows their Active Directory credential is the key
that will automatically unlock all of the applications or services that they have been
enabled for, including 3rd party applications that utilize Windows integrated
authentication.
Benefits of Active Directory
 Automatic Access to Local Resources
 Roaming User Profiles and Redirected Folders
 Offline Folders
 Enhanced Security to Provide Better Peace of Mind
 Improved Fault Tolerance to Minimize Downtime
 More Productive Users
 Reduction in Burden of IT Administration

SERVER 2: DNS (Domain Name System)

Domain Name System (DNS) enables you to use hierarchical, friendly names to easily
locate computers and other resources on an IP network. The following sections describe
the basic DNS concepts, including features explained in newer Requests for Comments
(RFCs), such as dynamic update, from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The
Microsoft® Windows® 2000–specific implementation of DNS is not covered within this
chapter, except where indicated.

The Following Configuration will be there on DNS Server

 Forward Look Up Zone

 Primary and Secondary Zone (Both)
 Reverse Look Up Zone
 Primary and Secondary Zone (Both)
 Roots Hints

 DNS supports Dynamic registration of SRV records registered by a Active

Directory server or a domain controller during promotion. With the help of SRV
records client machines can find domain controllers in the network.
 DNS supports Secure Dynamic updates. Unauthorized access is denied.
 Exchange server needs internal DNS or AD DNS to locate Global Catalog
servers.
 Active Directory Integrated Zone. If you have more than one domain controller
(recommended) you need not worry about zone replication. Active Directory
replication will take care of DNS zone replication also.
 If your network use DHCP with Active Directory then no other DHCP will be
able to service client requests coming from different network. It is because DHCP
server is authorized in AD and will be the only server to participate on network to
provide IP Address information to client machines.

SERVER 3: FILE SERVER (Share-Point)

In the client/server model, a file server is a computer responsible for the central storage
and management of data files so that other computers on the same network can access the
files. A file server allows users to share information over a network without having to
physically transfer files by floppy diskette or some other external storage device. Any
computer can be configured to be a host and act as a file server. In its simplest form, a
file server may be an ordinary PC that handles requests for files and sends them over the
network. In a more sophisticated network, a file server might be a dedicated network-
attached storage (NAS) device that also serves as a remote hard disk drive for other
computers, allowing anyone on the network to store files on it as if to their own hard
drive.

A program or mechanism that enables the required processes for file sharing can also be
called a file server. On the Internet, such programs often use the File Transfer Protocol
(FTP).

By using File Server Resource Manager, you can perform the following tasks:

 Create quotas to limit the space allowed for a volume or folder and generate
notifications when the quota limits are approached or exceeded.

 Automatically generate and apply quotas to all existing folders and any new
subfolders in a volume or folder.

 Create file screens to control the type of files that users can save and send
notifications when users attempt to save blocked files.

 Define quota and file screening templates that can be easily applied to new
volumes or folders and reused across an organization.

 Schedule periodic storage reports that help identify trends in disk usage.

 Monitor attempts to save unauthorized files for all users or for a selected group of
users.

 Generate storage reports instantly, on demand.
