Detailing Of Slab
According To BNBC & ACI Code
1.1 : Definition Of Slab

What is Slab ?

The depth of a slab is usually very small compared to its span .

Why do we used slab in the Building ?
Structure concrete slabs are constructed to provide flat surfaces, usually
horizontal, in building floors, roofs, bridges and other types of structures .
2.1 : Classification Of Slab Depending on Support

2.2 : Classification Of Slab Depending on Reinforcement of Slab

Slab

One Way Slab Two Way Slab

2.3 : Column Supported Slab

Flat Plate Slab

Load are transferred direct to column . There is no drop panel &
column capital in slab & column.

Drop panel Slab

In the joint of column a large slab thickness are given to provide
better transmission of load .
2.3 : Column Supported Slab

Column Capital Slab

In the joint of column a large column section are given to
provide better transmission of load .

Drop panel with column Capital

Provide Drop panel & Column capital for better transmission of load .
2.3 : Column Supported Slab

Waffle Slab

When span of slab is larger than others in this type of situation provide waffle slab .
2.4 : Edge Supported Slab

Beam Supported Slab

When load is transformed from slab to Beam is called Beam supported slab
Wall Supported Slab
When load is transformed from slab to Wall is called Beam supported slab
2.5 : One way slab

One Way slab

When Load is transformed through one direction

then use main reinforcement only one direction ,
this type of slab is called One way slab.

• Load transform only one direction

• Load only transform only short direction
• The ratio of L/b is more than two
2.5 : Two way slab

Two Way slab

When Load is transformed through Both or two
direction then use main reinforcement in two
direction , this type of slab is called two way slab.

• Load transform two direction

• Load transform both section direction
• The ratio of L/b is equal or less than two
3.1: Minimum Thickness of slab

According To : BNBC- ( Table -6.6.1 )

3.1: Minimum Thickness of two way slab

According To : BNBC- (Table - 6.6.3)

4.1: Reinforcement of one way slab

• Main Reinforcement along short direction

• Distribution / Temperature Reinforcement
4.2: Reinforcement of Two way slab

• Main Reinforcement along Short Direction

• Main reinforcement Along long direction
5.1: Minimum reinforcement for main Bar

According to BNBC 6.2.8

01. For one way slab (Normal weight aggregate Concrete)

1.3
* 𝜌𝑚𝑖𝑛 = (Mpa)
𝑓𝑦
200
* 𝜌𝑚𝑖𝑛 = (psi)
𝑓𝑦

02. 𝜌𝑚𝑖𝑛 shall not be less than Temperature & Shrinkage Bar

03. For Brick aggregate shall be increased 𝜌 by 50 %

5.2: Minimum reinforcement for Temperature Bar

According to BNBC- 8.1.11

𝑁 𝑁
1. Slabs where reinforcement with 𝑓𝑦 =275 or 350 are used : 𝜌 = 0.002
𝑚𝑚2 𝑚𝑚2

𝑁
2. Slabs where reinforcement with 𝑓𝑦 = 420 are used : 𝜌 = 0.018
𝑚𝑚2

𝑁 420
3. Slabs where reinforcement with 𝑓𝑦 exceeding 420 are used : 𝜌 = 0.018( )
𝑚𝑚2 𝑓𝑦

4. The reinforcement ratio shall not be less than 0.0014

5. When Brick aggregate are used then 𝜌 is increased 50 % .

6.0: Maximum Reinforcement Spacing
7.1: Detaille Reinforcement of slab
7.2: Detaille Reinforcement of slab

According : BNBC-6.6.20
8.1: Corner Reinforcement of slab

𝜌
8.2: Corner Reinforcement of slab

According BNBC – 6.5.3.6

𝜶𝒇 = the ratio of flexural stiffness of beam section to flexural stiffness of a width of slab
bounded laterally by centerlines of adjacent panels (if any ) on each side of the beam

01. At exterior Corners of slab supported by edge walls or where one or more edge beams
have a value of 𝛂𝐟 greater than 1.0 .

02. Top & Bottom slab reinforcement shall be provided At exterior corners

03. Corner reinforcement spacing is equal to same of the positive moment Reinforcement

04. Reinforcement are placed an axis perpendicular to the diagonal from the corner of the
top and parallel to the diagonal from the corner in the bottom of the slab

05. Corner reinforcement shall be provided for a distance in each direction form corner equal
to one-fifth the longer span
