1.17 MAIN ENGINE CHANGE OVER FROM H.O. TO D.O. INSTRUCTION

A) Changeover from HO to DO

1. Set M/E FO temperature controller to ‘0’ and shut Steam In/Out valves to
M/E FO Heater.
2. Shut M/E FO system tracer steam valve 223S and 224S.
3. When M/E FO temperature reduces to ~ 85 – 90 deg. C, open M/E DO
Inlet valve 269N.
4. Shut M/E FO Inlet valve 203N. Confirm indicator in ECR is on DO.
5. Record the FO Flowmeter reading.
6. Open Viscorator Bypass valve 224N and shut In/Out valves 225N and
226N.
7. Switch Off Viscorator power in ECR.
8. For faster flushing of M/E FO system with DO, open Mixing Column
Bypass valve 229N and shut 227N.
9. After consuming ~ 500ltrs of DO (from flow meter reading), system is
completely flushed.

B) Changeover from DO to HO (After Renewal Fuel Pump)

1. Crack open Steam to FO heater to gradually increase DO temperature.
2. Check Individual Fuel Pumps temperature.
3. Open the Steam Inlet valve to raise temperature at a rate of 1 deg C /
5minutes. Continue monitoring fuel pump temperature and operation.
Note:
Ensure HO Serv Tank temperature is ~ 90deg C and water been drained.
4. When the DO temperature 90 deg C, gradually open FO inlet valve 203N.
5. Shut DO Inlet valve 269N fully and confirm indicator in ECR is on HO.
6. Open Viscorator FO In/Out valves 225N and 226N and shut Bypass valve
224N.
7. Switch on Viscorator and note viscosity.
8. Continue to open Steam to bring up temperature at a rate of 1deg C / 5
minutes.
9. When temperature reaches 110deg C, steam valve can be fully open and
change over to Viscosity Controller.
10. Open M/E FO system tracer steam valves 224S and 223S.

NOTE:
Main Engine shall be change over to DO under following conditions:
 Maintenance work on Fuel Pump is to be carried out
 Steam work for a prolonged period of time
 Before entering Dry Dock
 As per C/E’s decision
