ORAL PROJECT 2ND PART

As we know, society today tends to exaggerate the use of electronic devices,

such as cell phones, computers, television, and others. Now, due to the
situation that adolescents are going through, most of the time we are using
our cell phones and computers to carry out work and tasks, many times we
do not organize our time and spend extra hours on these electronic devices.
The misuse that we are giving to these can cause us many consequences,
such as migraines, headaches, eye fatigue, among others. Children and
adolescents of current generations have been considered as digital natives,
being immersed from their first years of life in communication and
information technologies (ICT).

Early contact and widespread use they make of these supports have led to
their way of relate to the family and social environment and to the world in
general is different from that of generations previous. The use of these
technologies offers undoubted benefits that are accompanied by no
negligible risks and damages that must be known and valued by parents,
educators and health personnel. These include such sensitive issues as
receiving inaccurate information, privacy and security, access to
inappropriate content or Harmful to age and cyber bullying.

The primary care pediatrician can play a important role promoting the proper
use of ICT, thus trying to minimize the consequences negatives that an
inappropriate use of these technologies can lead to psychophysical
development and social of children and adolescents.

The use of computers and Internet access in childhood and adolescence has
become widespread in the last decade. Households with minor children have
this screen in figures much higher than the Spanish average for home
computers; Furthermore, they make more use of this device than their
parents. At four years of age, 30% of children use the computer and 20%
access the Internet, between 10 and 15 years 96% have this support and a
large majority connect to the network. Half do so almost daily, increasing the
frequency of its use as age increases. 80% access from home first, from the
classroom as a second option 50% and, to a lesser extent, from the homes of
friends and family. The vast majority surf the Internet alone, and nearly half
of the network accesses from home are made from a non-shared room.

The average daily use of the network between 9 and 16 years old is 71
minutes, with no notable gender differences. The time spent on the network
increases with age, being less than an hour below the age of ten and
exceeding ninety minutes from the age of fifteen. Access to the network is
made from a computer, own or shared, with the percentage of minors
currently doing so by mobile phone or another portable device being very
low. The Internet connection in childhood and adolescence is made for three
main reasons, such as: information search, communication and leisure. Thus,
they get help with schoolwork, maintain or increase their social relationships
through the network and use it as a form of entertainment, where video
games and video clips play an important role. From 13 years old and
throughout adolescence, leisure activities and the use of social networks
increase, being very frequent in these ages: chatting, visiting a social profile,
using email and downloading music or movies. Table I shows the progression
of Internet use by European children and adolescents.
To conclude, for all the aforementioned, we realize how we as adolescents
do not measure the consequences that the misuse of these electronic tools
can have. We must begin to organize our time so that in the future we do not
have various health problems due to these errors.
