The Meaningful Learning Theory is attributed to David Ausubel. This theory stated that, students are
considered to be the center of the teaching learning process, and the teachers are the facilitators. Meaningful
Learning occurs when the new information is related to prior knowledge. According to Johannsen et al. (2012),
meaningful learning is an active process whereby newly acquired knowledge is interpreted against past
knowledge. This can be achieved when students are offered the opportunity to link their classroom activities to
real-life experiences. It is important to bear in mind to provide a real- world experiences especially with rigorous
content. You might want to adapt innovative activities such as storytelling, arts, graphic, and mnemonics.
Meaningful learning also similar in constructive way, according to Magnussen's (2008) constructivist view,
individuals build their own learning. This is to manipulate their understanding of a topic and re-represent it in
another form to show their understanding. Lickteig (2004) agrees with the assumption that learning occurs
through reflecting on life experience from a personal, autobiographical perspective, as knowledge comes from
individual experience.

In addition, meaningful learning is achieved if the methods or instruction being used in the class is
authentic and complex, wherein the learners will learn through their own experiences. Video, power point
presentations and stimulation will give great way to disseminate information and have long-lasting physical
evidence of the learning. This will include the performance task and the portfolio. By providing the learners
feedback and goals and objective explicitly stated their learning outcomes and progress, these will motivate
them and it is a great way to help them become goal directed and to this will also encourage them to regulate
their learning by checking for outcomes achieved.
