REVISION ASSIGNMENTS FOR WEEKLY TEST – 3

GRADE:IV SUB:G. SCIENCE
(Students are expected to bring a printout of this assignment for revision)

(REVISION ASSIGNMENT - 1)
I. Name the following
1. A force that resists motion Frictional Force
2. The capacity to do work- Energy
3. The force applied by muscles is called- Muscular Force
4. Energy obtained from the sun- Solar Energy

II. Fill in the blanks

1. Lever is used to open lids.
2. A sewing machine needs to be oiled to reduce Friction
3. Pulley is a simple machine commonly used to draw water from wells.
4. In an electric iron, electrical energy is converted into Heat energy
5. Screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder with grooves.

III.Define
1. Magnetic force: The force applied by a magnet on objects made of iron

2. Work: Work is said to be done when force moves an object from its place.

3. Force: A push or Pull

IV. Distinguish between:-

1. Gravitational force and frictional force
Gravitational Force: The force that exerts on objects and pulls them towards itself
Frictional force: The force that resists motion

V. Answer the following
1. When is work said to be done?
When force moves an object from its place.
2. Name 5 simple machines?
 Lever
 Inclined plane
 Screw
 Wedge
 Wheel and Axle
 Pulley

3. How does wheel and axle act as a machine?

 A rod attached to a wheel is called an Axle
 The axle moves the wheel
 The wheel and axle form a simple machine that moves the object

4. What are the different forms of energy?

The different forms of energy are:
 Solar energy
 Chemical energy
 Heat energy
 Electrical energy
 Light energy
 Sound energy

VI. Give reasons:-

1. Everything thrown up in the air comes down.
Because the earth exerts on objects and pulls them towards itself due to
gravitational force
2. It is advised to drive slowly when it is raining .
Because there is less frictional force due to the rain water

(REVISION ASSIGNMENT - 2)
I. Fill in the blanks
1. Land breeze in coastal area occurs during the night

2. The freezing of dew on the ground during cold nights is called frost

3. The movement of hot air and cold air causes air currents.

4. The conversion of water vapour into water is called condensation

5. Dew is formed when water vapour condenses on cold objects.

II. Distinguish between:-

1. Evaporation and condensation
 Evaporation: Conversion of liquid in to gas
 Condensation: Conversion of Gas in to liquid
2. Land breeze and sea breeze.

Land Breeze Sea Breeze

Blows at night Blows at day
Cool air blows from land to sea Cool air blows from sea to land
Air above the sea gets heated and rises up Air above the land gets heated and rises up

III. Define
1. Humidity: Amount of water vapour present in the air

2. Water table: Underground water level below which the ground is completely saturated with water

3. Filtration: The method of removing insoluble impurities present in water using filter

4. Weather: The day-to-day condition of the atmosphere

5. Snow: Water vapour condenses to form ice crystals at low temperature (in high mountains)

VI. Answer the following

1. Describe the processes involved in water cycle?
 The process of Evaporation and Condensation takes place continuously
 Sun heats the water and it forms water vapour
 Water vapour changes in to water drops and form clouds
 When it cools water drops fall as a rain

2. Name the different processes by which we can separate insoluble impurities in water?

 Sedimentation
 Decantation
 Filtration

3. How does the wind blow?

 The sun shines in the day and land gets heated
 Air above the land gets heated
 Hot air is lighter and rises up
 Cool air from surrounding rushes and take its place

IV. Give reasons:-

1. Hot air rises up:
Hot air is lighter and rises up

2. The water table is generally low during summer.

In summer water evaporates more, so the water table is low.

3. The water table is generally high during winter.

In winter water evaporates less, so the water table is high.

(REVISION ASSIGNMENT - 3)
I. Fill in the blanks
1. The methods such as Sedimentation, Decantation and Filtration can be used to
separate insoluble impurities from water.
2. Sir Issac Newton is the scientist who discovered gravity.
3. A ramp is an example of Inclined plane
4. Solar cooker trap solar energy to prepare food.
5. Chlorination is a method that can be used to remove soluble impurities
6. Solar energy is a renewable source of energy.

II. Name the following

1. Water vapour condenses on dust particles to form fog
2. The process of pouring clean water into another container without disturbing the
sediment is Decantation

3. The day-to-day condition of the atmosphere of a place at a given time - Weather

4. An inclined plane with one slanting surface ending in a sharp edge - Screw
III. Give reasons:-
1. Nights are generally cooler than days.

Because during night, the earth is NOT facing sun.

2. Water evaporates faster when the air is dry.

Because the air has less moisture

3. Wind blows from the land towards the sea at night.

Air above the sea gets heated and rised up

IV. Define
1. Convection current
The movement caused by hot and cold air

2. Hail
The convertion of rain drops in to a hard ice balls in cold region

3. Machine
A device that helps us to do work with less effort

4. Sedimentation
The process by which insoluble impurities settle-down at the bottom, leaving
clean water above.

V. Answer the following
1. Explain how sea breeze occurs?

Sea Breeze
Blows at day
Cool air blows from sea to land
Air above the land gets heated and rises up

2. Under what conditions does evaporation take place faster?

Water evaporates faster when:
 Windy
 Temperature is high
 Air is dry

3. What are the processes that are involved in water cycle?

 The process of Evaporation and Condensation takes place continuously
 Sun heats the water and it forms water vapour
 Water vapour changes in to water drops and form clouds
 When it cools water drops fall as a rain

4. How does an inclined plane work like a simple machine?

 Inclined plane is a sloping surface, which helps to move heavy objects
from one place to another.

5. What are the uses of heat energy?

Heat energy is useful in many ways;
 Cooking food
 Drying things
 To produce electricity
