3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION, GENERAL

A. Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required for installing
metal fabrications . Set metal fabrications accurately in location, alignment, and elevation;
with edges and surfaces level, plumb, true, and free of rack; and measured from established
lines and levels.
1. Refer to Division 05 Section "Structural Steel Framing" for limitations on sizes and
locations of site-drilled holes in structural steel.
B. Fit exposed connections accurately together to form hairline joints. Weld connections that
are not to be left as exposed joints but cannot be shop welded because of shipping size
limitations. Do not weld, cut, or abrade surfaces of exterior units that have been hot-dip
galvanized after fabrication and are for bolted or screwed field connections.
C. Field Welding: Comply with the following requirements:
I. Use materials and methods that minimize distmtion and develop strength and
conosion resistance of base metals.
2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap.
3. Remove welding flux immediately.
4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so no
roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches that of
adjacent surface.
D. Fastening to In-Place Construction: Provide anchorage devices and fasteners where metal
fabrications are required to be fastened to in-place construction. Provide threaded fasteners
for use with concrete and masomy inserts, toggle bolts, through bolts, lag screy.rs, wood
screws, and other connectors.
E. Provide tempormy bracing or anchors in formwork for items that are to be built into
concrete, masomy, or similar constmction.
F. CmTosion Protection: Coat concealed surfaces of aluminum that will come into contact
with grout, concrete, masomy, wood, or dissimilar metals with the following:
1. Exh·uded Aluminum: Two coats of clear lacquer.

3.2 INSTALLING STEEL FRAMING AND SUPPORTS

A. General: Install framing and supports to comply with requirements of items being
supported, including manufacturers' written insh·uctions and requirements indicated on Shop
Drawings.
B. For framing and supports located above ceilings, coordinate framing and supports with
locations of ducts and other above-ceiling devices and equipment. ModifY fi·aming and
supports, and provide supplemental framing and bracing, so as to not interfere with above-
ceiling devices and equipment, while providing required support to components supported
by fi·aming.
C. For framing and supports for overhead coiling doors and shutters, overhead coiling fire
curtains and smoke containment curtains, and side-folding grilles, install headers level with
finished floor to within plus or minus 1.6-mm tolerance over the length of opening. Install
anchorage devices in accordance with templates and setting drawings showing locations of
anchorage devices and similar items.

G. Slotted Channel Framing: Cold-formed metal box channels (struts) complying with
MFMA-4.
1. Size of Channels: Approximately 40 by 40 mm.
2. Material: Galvanized steel, ASTM A 653/A 653M, with Z275 coating; thickness as
required to comply with performance requirements but not less than 2.8-mm nominal
thickness.
3. Where slotted channel framing is cast into concrete, fabricate with manufacturer's
standard anchors for casting into concrete.
4. Provide with manufacturer's standard accessories including galvanized spring-nut
fasteners, fittings, spacers and other accessories as required for complete installation.
5. Provide as may be detennined by Contractor to provide concealed framing to comply
with perfmmance requirements, and elsewhere as indicated on Drawings.
H. Cast Iron: Either gray iron, ASTM A 48/A 48M, or malleable iron, ASTM A 47/A 47M.

2.3 NONFERROUS METALS

A. Aluminum Exh·usions: ASTM B 221M, Alloy 6063-T6.

2.4 FASTENERS
A. General: Unless othenvise specified, provide Type 316 stainless-steel fasteners for exterior
use and zinc-plated fasteners with coating complying with ASTM B 633 or
ASTM F 1941M, Class Fe/Zn 5, at exterior walls. Select fasteners for type, grade, and class
required to comply with performance requirements .
1. Provide stainless-steel fasteners for fastening aluminum.
2. Provide stainless-steel fasteners for fastening stainless steel.
B. Steel Bolts and Nuts: Regular hexagon-head bolts, ASTM A 325M, Type 3; with hex nuts,
ASTM A 563M, Class 8S3; and, where indicated, flat washers.
C. Stainless-Steel Bolts and Nuts: Regular hexagon-head annealed stainless-steel bolts,
ASTM F 738M; with hex nuts, ASTM F 836M; and, where indicated, flat washers; Alloy
Group A I for interior use; Group A4 for exterior use.
D. Anchor Bolts: ASTM F 1554, Grade 36, of dimensions indicated; with nuts, ASTM A 563;
and, where indicated, flat washers.
1. Hot-dip galvanize or provide mechanically deposited, zinc coating where item being
fastened is indicated to be galvanized.
E. Eyebolts: ASTM A 489.
F. Machine Screws: ASME B18.6.7M.
G. Lag Screws: ASME BI8.2.3.8M.
H. Wood Screws: Flat head, ASME Bl8.6 .1.
I. Plain Washers: Round, ASME BI8.22M.
J. Lock Washers: Helical, spring type, ASME B 18.21 .2M.
K. Anchors, General: Anchors capable of sustaining, without failure, a load equal to six times
the load imposed when installed in unit masonry and four times the load imposed when
installed in concrete, as determined by testing according to ASTM E 488, conducted by a
qualified independent testing agency.
L. Cast-in-Place Anchors in Concrete: Either threaded type or wedge type unless otherwise
dete1mined by Conh·actor to comply with perfmmance requirements; galvanized fe!Tous

and fixings for metal fabrication and related elements. including, interfaces and coordination with work of adjoining
trades, to satisfy aest11etic effects and performance requirements in accordance with the contract documents.
Detailed Comments: 1)we note that contractor proposed materials which is not matching with project ASTM
standards, however Contractor to ensure there is no impact on performance requirements. 2)This submittal is
deemed Code 05 (Review not required) as the onus for the structural design of the support for the architectural
finish system on the DAS falls squarely with the contractor. 3)Contractor to ensure the" HOG" is in accordance
