Ethics and Morals

Ethics is the principle of conduct governing a single individual or a group of people.

Moral on the other hand is the principles of wrong and right behavior. Ethics and Moral are

absolute since, in ethics, the person or people involved try to follow the virtues and avoid the

vices. Absolute morality holds that “things are wrong from an objective point of view, not just

from one perspective because right and wrong are unchangeable; they are not affected by

mitigating factors” (Heller, 2016). For example, if a person steals bread from a kiosk and another

one robs a bank, they both have committed a crime.

Absolute moral truths exist because “there are absolute standards against which moral

questions can be judged and that certain actions are either right or wrong regardless of the

context of the act; a good example is when a driver causes the death of a person to prevent the

death of many” (Heller, 2016). However, it is criticized by the diversity of moral opinions within

and between societies. Morality, therefore, cannot be viewed as an individual definition of right

and wrong.

It would be unethical for everyone to have the right to decide which behaviors are

acceptable for them because a lot of conflicts will occur among individuals, an example being if

a person dresses very exposedly in a meeting, it can affect the concentration of members. All

cultures as well should not have a right to decide what is right because some cultural practices

have negative consequences, for instance the one that practice Female Genital Mutilation. There

is no absolute definition of right and wrong.
