Welcome to the

2020 Gorham Savings Bank Maine Amputee Open

July 14 & 15
at the Brunswick Golf Club, Brunswick Maine.
http://www.brunswickgolfclub.com/

This is the third year we have added a Scramble event at the Brunswick Golf Club on July 13 at
1PM.

We are expecting amputees and friends from around the US and Canada. The Gorham Savings
Bank Maine Amputee Open is a 36 Hole Stroke play event run by the Amputee Association of
Maine. The event is a ranking event for WR4GD and the USAGA. We are a tournament for
amputees and able-bodied golfers with an overall champion and able bodied and amputee
winners.

We hope that golfers from away will use the Scramble to play Brunswick prior to the Maine
Amputee Open. For our friends in Maine the scramble is an easy, convenient way to support
the Amputee Association of Maine www.amputeeassociatinofmaine.org while having fun with
friends, clients and co-workers.

In conjunction with the tournament, the Amputee Association of Maine and Maine Adaptive
Sports & Recreation www.maineadaptive.org are once again sponsoring a free Adaptive Golf
Clinic from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 12 at Brunswick GC. Register at www.maineadaptive.org

Maine in July is spectacular, and the greater Portland/ Mid Coast area combines the rocky coast
with woods and mountains along with world-class restaurants in one of the most livable areas
on the east coast. We hope you will arrive in Maine to spend some time before the
tournament or stay and visit after. One important thing to consider is that Maine is a very
popular place in the summer and you will want to make your lodging plans early. There are a
variety of hotels, motels and B&B’s within 30 minutes of the Brunswick Golf Club in both urban
and small-town settings. Portland is a 25 minute drive while Freeport is only 15 minutes from
the club.
The amputee Association of Maine www.amputeeassociationofmaine.com is a non-profit
501(c)3 dedicated to the following mission: To represent and empower the amputee
community in Maine through support, advocacy and education. Our golf tournament serves
two purposes: it raises awareness of the issues that amputees may face while demonstrating
what can be accomplished and it helps the Amputee Association of Maine Board raise funds to
support our mission.

Please consider joining the Eastern Amputee Golf Association www.eagagolf.org to help
support tournaments throughout the eastern U. S., golf clinics and scholarship funds. An EAGA
application is included in your materials.

For amputees who wish to be included in the WR4GD rankings and who are not yet WR4GD
certified you can go to the link https://edgagolf.com/online/www/pass.html and fill out the simple
form. Have your doctor or PT sign the form and submit two copies- one to EDGA and one to us. We will
also have a WR4GD classifier on site at the event.

Enjoy your time in Maine!

Milas Rose Memorial Fund

In 2007, we lost a wonderful member and friend in Milas Rose of Centreville, VA. Milas was a relative newcomer to the EAGA. He
had been diagnosed with cancer and had a right hemipelvectomy. He was relieved to know that he would be able to return to
golf-one of his life’s passions. In the beginning, he used a single rider golf cart and participated at 2004 Combo Classic at Twin
Lakes GC in Clifton, VA and the eastern Regional at Bethpage State Park on Long Island. Milas also played in the Northeastern
Amputee Classic at CC of Woodloch Springs in Hawley, PA. In 2006, he played in the Combo Classic with his new prosthetic leg.
This would be his last event as he was unable to shake the cancer.
Milas’s widow, Joanne wished to do something in his memory. So, the Milas Rose Memorial Fund was born to help his fellow
Military veterans by establishing complimentary memberships to the EAGA for any wounded amputee soldier returning home
from Iraq and Afghanistan. EAGA Memberships are available to any amputee soldier who attends our NAGA “First Swing/Learn
to Golf” Clinics such as the Disabled Sports/USA & Warfighter Sports Clinics. Memberships are also available to any amputee
soldiers that are recommended by our EAGA Members and Friends. Thanks to all who donated for their generosity and support
of our Military men and women.
