GATHERING TOGETHER
Welcome to God’s grace – where the world’s labels don’t apply.

Step into God’s time and presence. Hear God’s gentle whisper: “Be still and know that I am God.”
Let your body and mind rest, and open your heart to God in worship and prayer. Welcome each
other in the love of Christ. Extend hospitality to those new in our midst. “This is the day the Lord has
made. Let us rejoice in it!”

WELCOME & RINGING OF THE BELL

GREETING
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of
the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
GATHERING SONG
“IN CHRIST ALONE” KELLY CARPENTER
Verse 1: In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled; when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
Verse 2: In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This Gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied.
For every sin on him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.

PRAYER
“IN CHRIST ALONE”
Verse 3: There in the ground his body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave he rose again.
And as he stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me.
For I am his and he is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
2

Verse 4: No guilt in life no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me.
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from his hand.
Till he returns nor cause me harm
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand! CCLI1028901

CELEBRATING HOLY BAPTISM

We witness the gift of new birth through the sacrament of Holy Baptism and remember that we, too,
are the baptized children of God.

INVITATION
God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth into a living hope
through the sacrament of baptism. By water and the Word God delivers us
from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are
united with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed with the
gift of the Holy Spirit, and joined in God’s mission for the life of the world.

PRESENTATION
I present Zander Luke Schaecher for baptism.
Called by the Holy Spirit, trusting in the grace and love of God, do you
desire to have your child baptized?
Parents: I do.
Do you promise to nurture this child in the Christian faith as you are
empowered by God’s Spirit, and to help him live in the covenant of
baptism and in communion with the church?
Parents: I do.

RENUNCIATION OF EVIL & PROFESSION OF FAITH

I ask you to profess your faith in Christ, reject sin, and confess the faith of
the church.
Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God?
I renounce them!
Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God?
I renounce them!
Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God?
I renounce them!
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
3

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to
the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to
judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and the life everlasting.

THANKSGIVING
Water is poured into the font.
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over
the waters, and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in
which you took delight.
Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family and
through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery in Egypt to
freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with
the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus’ death and resurrection, you set
us free from the power of sin and death and raised us up to live in you.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon this water and upon all who are washed in
it, that those who are washed in the waters of baptism may be given new
life. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen
BAPTISM
Through Holy Baptism we are born into the one family of God and therefore only the first and middle
names are used.
Zander Luke, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Spirit. Amen
You belong to Christ, in whom you have been baptized. Alleluia!
LAYING ON OF HANDS
Let us pray. We give you thanks, O God that through water and the Holy
Spirit you give your daughters and sons new birth, cleanse them from sin,
and raise them to eternal life. Sustain Zander with the gift of your Holy
Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and
might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in
your presence, both now and forever. Amen

SIGNING WITH THE CROSS
As a sign of the gift of the Holy Spirit, we anoint the child with perfumed oil and make the sign of the cross
upon his forehead.

Zander, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked
with the cross of Christ forever. Amen
PRESENTATION OF A CANDLE
The assistant presents a lighted candle as a reminder of this baptism.

Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have the
light of life.
PRESENTATION OF THE FAITH CHEST AND MISSION INVESTMENT CERTIFICATE

WELCOME
Let us welcome the newly baptized.
We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we
share. Join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God’s
creative and redeeming word to all the world.

SHARING OF THE PEACE

The peace of the Lord be with you always.
And also with you.
We invite you to greet one another in the name of the Lord and share the gift of his peace.

“Lord, I Need You” Reeves, Stanfill, Maher, Nockels and Carson

Verse 1: Lord, I come, I confess. Bowing here, I find my rest.
And without you, I fall apart. You’re the one that guides my heart.
Chorus: Lord, I need you, oh, I need you.
Ev’ry hour I need you.
My one defense, my righteousness;
Oh, God, how I need you.
Verse 2: Where sin runs deep, your grace is more.
Where grace is found is where you are.
And where you are, Lord, I am free.
Holiness is Christ in me. (Chorus)
Bridge: So teach my song to rise to you
When temptation comes my way.
And when I cannot stand, I’ll fall on you.
Jesus, you’re my hope and stay. (Chorus)
My one defense, my righteousness; oh God, how I need you.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

Blessed be the holy Trinity, +one God, whose steadfast love is everlasting,
whose faithfulness endures from generation to generation. Amen
5
Trusting in the mercy of God, let us confess our sin.
Silence is kept for reflection.
Reconciling God,
We confess that we do not trust your abundance, and we deny your
presence in our lives. We place our hope in ourselves and rely on our
own efforts. We fail to believe that you provide enough for all. We
abuse your good creation for our own benefit. We fear difference and
do not welcome others as you have welcomed us. We sin in thought,
word, and deed. By your grace, forgive us; through your love, renew
us; and in your Spirit, lead us; so that we may live and serve you in
newness of life. Amen
Beloved of God, by the radical abundance of divine mercy we have peace
with God through +Christ Jesus, through whom we have obtained grace
upon grace. Our sins are forgiven. Let us live now in hope. For hope does
not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through
the Holy Spirit. Amen
