Cash Game Strategy Quiz Answers &

Explanations

Here are the questions, answers, and explanations from our cash game
strategy quiz.

Question #1

✅ Q♦ T♦

T♣ 9♣

When choosing which blu s are most e ective on the river, we must
consider the impact of each hand's blockers.

Q♦ T♦ blocks KQ and KT, which are a big part of the your opponent's
calling range on the river. You also do not block any of the missed ush
draws in his range that he will almost certainly fold on the river.
T♣ 9♣ also blocks KT, but having two clubs makes it less likely the BB has
a missed ush draw (like A♣ T♣ or A♣ 9♣) that will certainly fold to a river 
bet.

As a result, blu ng with Q♦ T♦ will work more often than blu ng with T♣
9♣.

Question #2: When you want to c-bet with a

lot of your range, what size should you use?
✅ Small (between 25-40% of the pot)

Large (between 66-80% of the pot)

Overbet (More than 100% of the pot)

A small bet size allows you to extract some value with your 2nd and 3rd
pairs and gives your blu s a great price.

Question #3: Suppose you bet $100 into a

pot of $100 on the river, meaning your
opponent must call $100 to win $200. What is
the theoretically optimal blu -to-value bet
ratio?
50% blu s, 50% value bets

67% blu s, 33% value bets

✅ 33% blu s, 67% value bets

This frequency is optimal because it allows you to win the pot most often
without the possibility of being countered.
Question #4: Suppose you're on the button 
facing a pre op raise from the cuto (100BB
deep). Which hand would you rather 3-bet
blu with?
✅ A♦ 2♦

J♣ 8♣

Both hands have very good playability post op with both ush and straight
potential. But only A♦ 2♦ blocks a signi cant number of hands with which
your opponent would 4-bet (AA, AK) or call (AQ, AJ, AT, AXs).

Question #5

87s

✅ J9s

AJo

Top pair medium kicker is not strong enough to bet three streets for value
unimproved, and having a gutshot straight draw makes this hand less
susceptible to bad turns. Additionally, checking back with hands like this
makes your check back range stronger, allowing you to better defend
against turn bets. 

Both 87s and AJo are strong enough to bet three streets for value barring a
bad run out, so you should de nitely bet with them on the op.

Question #6: Same op (J-8-7) as the last

question. Which hand would you most like to
check-back with the intention of delay c-
betting on the turn as a blu ?
6♦ 5♦

✅ K♠ Q♦

Q♠ 9♠

K♠ Q♦ has the most showdown value and the worst equity when called of
these 3 hands.

Both 6♦ 5♦ and Q♠ 9♠ are slam-dunk c-bet blu s on the J♦ 8♠ 7♣ op.

Question #7: On which of these boards

should you bet more often after the pre op
raiser checked back on the op?
✅ T♣ 8♦ 5♥ 6♠

A♥ K♣ 9♠ 9♦

On T♣ 8♦ 5♥ 6♠, more of your opponent's range is overcards or

underpairs that will fold.

A♥ K♣ 9♠ 9♦ is not a good board to probe bet with a wide range because

your opponent can easily have turned trips after checking on the op with a
9. He can also have an A or K that he checked on the op, neither of which
will fold to a bet. 

Question #8: True or False: You should

tighten your c-bet range in multi-way pots.
✅ True

False

The likelihood of running into a strong hand is increases with more players
in the pot. As a result, you need to approach multi-way pots with caution–
adjusting your betting range to consist primarily of strong value hands and
good semi-blu s.

Question #9

✅ 8♦ 5♦

A♦ Q♦

A♦ 6♦

8♦ 5♦ is a perfect flush draw to start betting with on the flop. You

want to pick ush draws which have the least showdown value rst to put
into your betting range. 8-high has no showdown value and solid equity
versus a calling range. 

Both A♦ Q♦ and A♦ 6♦ have some showdown value and can

comfortably call a turn probe, so you can check back with them. A
bene t of checking with the nut ush draw is that it strengthens your
checking range and, when you hit your ush, you will have a very disguised
strong hand.

That said, you can't go wrong betting with the nut ush draw, so you can go
either way. 8♦ 5♦, however, is a mandatory bet.

Question #10

✅ 3-bet a polarized range containing both strong value hands and blu s

3-bet a merged range containing strong value hands, medium strength

hands, and suited connectors

You can take advantage of the cuto 's high fold to 3-bet percentage by 3-
betting with a range that includes blu s and so you should 3-bet with a
polarized strategy.
