Palliative Care for Nurses


An Exciting Opportunity for All Nurses (RN/RPN/NP)
Fall 2017
 Target Audience: Any nurse providing palliative care— new graduates

and experienced nurses refining their skills


 Foundational Palliative course to develop the nurse’s knowledge base, assessment
skills, patient care planning and team communication skills
 Prerequisite course for Comprehensive Advanced Care Education (CAPCE) offered
winter 2018

Course Format
 Includes Fundamentals Enhanced for Nurses
 Required pre-reading of Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care Program Guide and
E-learning modules
 Three 3 hour face to face classes: Oct 4, Oct 25 & Nov 8 from 0900 to 1230 hours
 One 2 hour small group coaching session with dates and groups to be determined

Course Content
 Palliative assessment, problem solving and critical thinking skills
 Trajectories of illness, identifying patients who would benefit from a palliative
 approach to care using the Gold Standards Framework of End Stage Disease
 Holistic palliative care planning using the Domains of Care
 Pharmacology in palliative care
Cost: $65 includes Program Guide and continental breakfast
