GENERAL INFORMATION
• The textbook for the course is "Physics" by Giancoli (Custom McGill Edition).
• Assignments will normally be given on Tuesdays and will be due by 22:59 (10:59 p.m.) the
following Monday. Each student will have individual assignments prepared by the Computer
Assisted Personalized Approach system (CAPA). Access to assignments is through myCourses
or directly to http://capa.mcgill.ca. Check the assignment information on myCourses.
• Lab reports must be written up in handouts which will be provided at the start of each lab. The
reports must be handed in before leaving the laboratory. Non-attendance or non-submission of
a lab report will earn zero credit. To pass the course a mark of ≥ 55% is required. Students
should make every effort to do their experiments during the scheduled lab week. Absence from
a lab requires a special permission which may be granted based on University approved
absences with supporting written evidence.
• Tutorials
Tutorials, if offered, will be held in room 1070 in the Wong Building. The start and schedule of
the tutorials will be announced on myCourses.
• Evaluation scheme:
In the case of extraordinary circumstances beyond the University’s control, the content and/or
the evaluation scheme of thIs course is subject to change.
• A simple scientific calculator with trigonometrical functions, square roots and logarithms is
recommended for the course. During the final exam you will be permitted to use hand-held
calculators except those with programmable capabilities and/or those capable of displaying
alphanumeric text.
• Additional work, to improve marks, will not be available.
