1.0 Purpose

 To ensure safe and proper refractory lining of Kiln

2.0 Scope

 Applicable to Kiln.

3.0 Responsibility

 HOD (Operation) /section Incharge is overall responsible for implementation of this SOP.
4.0 Pre requisites

 Wear the Personnel Protective Equipments like Helmet, Nose Mask etc
 LC to be taken for Kiln main drive and auxiliary drive and pre-heater fan too.
 Make dummy at Kiln inlet.
 Proper lighting should be made ready inside the kiln.
 Make sure availability of required tools and tackles.
 Lay out the ribbon at the dumping area of cleaned material.
 Ensure arrangement of proper walkway through kiln hood door

5.0 Procedure

 Take Line Clearance from Electrical Department for Kiln main drive and auxiliary drive.
 Arrange walk way to go inside the kiln.
 Remove Kiln coating with chisel pipes and breakers.
 Evacuate people and rotate Kiln with auxiliary drive if necessary to empty out the coating.
 Guide and specify the old lining area to be removed.
 In the presence of supervisor, start the procedure of removing the brick lining using electric
breaker.

 If necessary rotate the Kiln with auxiliary drive for further removal.
 Clear the brick debris, and entire area to be cleaned manually.
 After completion of de bricking kiln shell to be prepared for new lining.
 Check the master level of the kiln and mark the center line to centre axis of the kiln
 Start for center brick lining with three rows initially and ensure lining is follows marked axis
line.
 Completed the half round of the kiln lining than fix the screw jack with proper tightening and
rotate the kiln for another half round.
 Continue the procedure up to required brick lining achieved
 Remove the brick lining Screw jack after completion.
 Clean the debris material inside the kiln.
 Remove the walk way from the kiln.
 Clear L.C.
Safety precautions:
 Old lining to be removed by standing opposite to desire brick lining removal.
 Lengthy chisel pipes should use to remove old brick lining.

 Shifting of screw jacks and runners and required tools and tackles is carried out with safely.
 Ensure not fallen, by giving proper support to wooden raptors/screw jacks while
fixing/removing.
 Ensure brick not fallen down while fixing.

1. To be calculated for how much quantity is consumed of refractory / castable accordingly
issue to be given from stores dept

2. Spillage and waste of refcastable and mixing of more than required to be avoided

3. To be utilized brick cutting machine for effective size where is required

4. Avoid the damage of the brick while fixing the brick laying

5. Switch off the lights and remove the connections after completion of the work

6. Avoid the idle running of brick cutting machine
