General
Code of Conduct

When you signed up to be a member of Bright Network, you agreed to abide by

our Code of Conduct that you can read here. We have a zero-tolerance policy
towards inappropriate behaviour during your Internship Experience – any
violation of our Code of Conduct will result in immediate removal from the
programme and based on the severity could also result in your Bright Network
membership being revoked. Additionally, depending on the behaviour, your
university may also be informed. Please also re-familiarise yourself with our
membership guidelines here.

Please also note any inappropriate/off-topic chat will be immediately removed

from the chat function. Usage of the chat functionality in the seminars (stage) is
to be used only for questions for the speakers.

Programme

Please find a link to the IEUK: Law programme here. You can find details of the
agenda, speakers and their backgrounds. Please also consult the Alumni Office
Hours section to understand which firm representatives and alums will be
available for you to hear from on Day 2 (12:30-1:30pm).

Hopin How-to

For any general IEUK questions as well as detailed instructions on how to use
Hopin, please see here.

Technical issues

Please see here for tech troubleshooting. The main reasons that Hopin is not
working correctly are:
• Using the wrong browser: please ensure you are on Chrome or Firefox
AND that is it the most recent version. You can check here.
• Slow internet speed: We recommend a minimum of 5mbps download
and 2mbps upload. Ideally, we like to see 30mbps download and 10mbps
upload or higher for the best quality - test your speed here. If your
screen is buffering, click on the cog icon (settings) in the bottom right-
hand corner of the stream and select the lowest quality (270p).
• Other devices/platforms connected: If you are having trouble
accessing the event, ensure your device is not streaming from any other
platforms and restart your computer.
• Hopin blocked due to firewalls: Please sign into a VPN.

Slides from Seminars

Please note that we cannot provide our clients’ presentations as this is their
intellectual property. Additionally, please do not take screenshots or videos or
distribute recordings of the slides or presentations as this is in violation of our
Code of Conduct. We have intentionally scheduled the seminars on day 1 with
plenty of breaks to ensure you only need to focus and take notes for short
periods of time.

Questions during IEUK

If you have any questions or need support from Bright Network during IEUK,
please go straight to the Bright Network Help Desk, which can be found on
the Help Desk Tab > IEUK Attendee Help Desk.

Please do not individually message members of staff on Hopin, as our personal

Hopin inboxes will not always be monitored throughout the programme. If you
would prefer to ask your question in private or need to report something
urgently, please ask to speak to someone privately in the Help Desk chat or
email events@brightnetwork.co.uk.

Work Sample
Instructions

The work sample and instructions will be published on Hopin after the work sample
introductory session at 9:30AM on Wednesday morning. The work sample task can
be found here.

Please ensure you use the rest of Day 2 to research the task and start building your
presentation. The 1:1 networking sessions and Alumni Office Hours are invaluable
opportunities to ask any questions you may have.

Deadlines for work sample

• Thursday 11:30AM – you must be ready to share your work with a peer
(via a shareable Google Drive/WeTransfer link)
• Thursday 1PM – this is the deadline to submit your work sample to Bright
Network through the marking form.

Peer-to-peer feedback and marking will work using the 1:1 networking function, or
by connecting with a partner yourself if you already know someone. You will not
have to submit your work sample until you fill our the work sample marking form
(emailed to you on Thursday morning at approximately 10AM), where you will have
to include a URL to your work sample presentation.

We will email you a “model” answer along with the marking form and instructions
at approximately 10AM on Thursday.

*Please note, the Bright Network team on the Help Desk are not Legal experts,
so will only be able to help with formatting, process and technical issue queries!

Frequently Asked Questions:
General

I need help / I’m not sure how to approach the work sample task?
• Use your peers to share ideas and ask questions!
• There is also the Alumni Office Hour at 12.30pm on Tuesday where you
can ask people from our partner companies, as well as the Bright Network
Work Sample Support Booth
• Research terms / acronyms you don’t know online
• Treat this task as you would if you were set it by a manager in a real
working environment – be proactive and do your research!

What if I missed some of the seminars of the internship?

• Please do not worry if technological difficulties meant you were unable to
view the entirety of all the seminars. The work sample is designed to
ensure you are able to complete the task by doing independent research
on the internet.
• Also, please make use of the 1:1 networking sessions to ask your peers,
and the Alumni Office Hour session to discuss any general content
questions with our partner firm representatives, as well as the Bright
Network Work Sample support booth
• Recordings of the seminars will be sent out to all attendees in a few
weeks’ time

Can I fail the work sample?

• You cannot fail the work sample – it is intended to give you a taste for
the type of work you may be asked to do during an internship. Give it your
best go and don’t worry if you make mistakes – it’s a learning experience!

Format

How many slides / pages should I produce?

• There is no limit (minimum or maximum), use as many as you think are
needed. Please also consult the Key Deliverables section of the work sample
for guidance.

Do we have to reference?
• If you are using information, data or arguments from other sources which are
not your own, then you should be referencing them.

What format or programme should we produce our work in?

• We recommend completing the work sample in a PowerPoint presentation or
Google Slides, but you can also use Word if that is preferable. Please also
ensure your work sample is all in one document.

Do I have to use graphs/tables/diagrams?

• It is up to you, use what you feel is necessary to complete your work sample.

Deadline, feedback, marking & submitting the work sample

How will the marking and submitting of my presentation work?

Process in short (on Thursday):

10:00AM – You will receive an email (to the same address you registered to the
internship experience or Hopin with) with the scoring matrix and model answer,
and a link to submit your work to Bright Network. Please wait to submit your
marking form until after the work sample debrief at 11AM.

10:45AM – Complete your work sample and have it ready for peer-to-peer
review and marking. Make sure you’ve uploaded it to Google Drive/We Transfer
and have a URL ready to share with your peer.

11:00AM – Attend the Work Sample Debrief seminar on the main stage, with a
marking explanation and a run through of a model answer.

11:30AM – Using the 1:1 Networking function (or by pairing with someone you
already know), connect with a peer and swap your work samples using the
sharing link you made earlier. Talk through and remove each other’s work,
provide feedback and score them. Please note the 5-minute restriction in 1:1
Networking will be increased to 90 minutes for the marking session).

Before 1:00PM – Submit your own work sample, and the scores for your peer’s
work sample, to Bright Network, using the link in the email you received at
10AM.

*Please do not share the link from your marking email with other participants.
The link is unique to you and is directly linked to how the certificates are made.
Misuse/sharing of your link may result in further delay in receiving your
certificate.

I didn’t get the email with the link to the form?

• The email with the link to the marking form will be sent to the same email
you applied for IEUK with (or registered for Hopin with if you registered
manually), at approximately 10:00AM on 16th July.
• If you have received prior emails from us, please re-check your email. Search
for “Bright Network” and/or “Phil”. Please ensure you check your spam,
promotions, junk and trash before going to the help desk.

Can I pair with someone I already know for the feedback and marking?
• Yes, this is fine - please connect with them via a video chat through the
‘People’ tab, as opposed to using the 1:1 Networking function. You can view
your previous 1:1 connections under ‘Connections’ in your Hopin profile

How do we share our work sample with the other person?

• Please use an online sharing platform such as WeTransfer, DropBox or
Google Drive and share your link with your partner.

What if I have problems with the person I am paired randomly with?

6
• Please leave the chat and attempt to reconnect with someone else. Failing
that, please head to the Help Desk where they will advise you further.

What if I don’t have a working webcam or microphone?

• Unfortunately, you will not be able to take part in the peer-to-peer
marking. You will need to find someone else who is happy to do it over
the chat function, or you can self-mark your own work.

Do I have to pair with someone randomly through the 1:1 Networking

function?
• Giving and receiving feedback with colleagues is an essential commercial
skill, so we recommend you give this a go! However, if you are not
comfortable with doing this, you can try to find someone else who is
happy to do it over the chat function, or you can self-mark your own
work.

Certificates

Do I need to complete the work sample to obtain a certificate?

• Yes, you will need to complete and submit your work sample and the
feedback/score of your peer’s work sample, to obtain the certificate

How will I receive the certificate?

• Your certificate will be sent digitally to your email a few days after the
programme finishes.

Will my score be on my certificate?

• No, as the marking is peer-to-peer and therefore subjective.

Will my work sample be seen by anyone else (e.g. the partner

companies)?
• No - your work sample will only be seen by your peer who marks it and
Bright Network once you submit it.
