TABLE OF CONTENTS
1. SCOPE
This specification establishes the minimum design, fabrication, assembly, testing,
inspection, painting, vendor data requirements, and preparation for shipment for vertical
can type pumps.
3. DEFINITIONS
Buyer: Refers to the Owner or their authorized representative
Seller: Refers to the Party or Parties who will supply the equipment described in this
specification

5. DESIGN
Seller shall select a pump which will be capable of pumping the capacity at the
corresponding differential head for the worst case flow conditions noted on the data
sheets.
The minimum, normal, and maximum flow and pressure conditions will be stated on the
data sheets.
Consideration shall be given to the most economical pump with maximum efficiency.
The impeller head-capacity characteristic curve shall rise continuously from design
capacity to shutoff and be such that the head developed at pressure rating of the pump
case at the maximum discharge pressure.
6. MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS
The pump shall be vertical can type, multistage, centrifugal with cast steel case suitable
for maximum allowable working pressure. Suction and discharge connections shall be
per ASME B16.5, raised face, flange-type, and shall be on opposite sides of the pump.
The spacer coupling shall be Meta Stream or Buyer-approved equal. The coupling shall
be supplied with a non-sparking OSHA-approved metal guard.
The pumps shall be equipped with tandem mechanical seals designed to prevent
leakage of process fluid outside the casing in the event of inner seal failure. The seals
shall be John Crane - Mechanical type or Buyer-approved equal.
The Seller shall supply and install all required bearing cooling piping, seal flush piping,
seal failure piping complete with restriction orifice, seal failure pressure switch
connection, vent piping, and pump drains. The piping, valves, and fittings and their
arrangement shall be approved by Buyer prior to fabrication and installation.
The Seller shall identify clockwise or counter clockwise rotation of the pump when facing
the input end of shaft. Rotation shall be specified at the time of order. Equipment shall
be so designed so that pump rotation can be reversed in the field, if desired. The Buyer
will specify the location of the suction and discharge flanges at time of order.
All materials shall be suitable for service in the specified fluid.
7. ELECTRICAL/INSTRUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
The pump will be driven by an induction, air-cooled electric motor which will be supplied
by the pump vendor in accordance with the electric motor section of the pump data
sheet.

The pump/motor shall have the following protective devices furnished and installed by
the pump vendor:
• two pump radial bearing tip sensitive resistance temperature detectors
(RTDs), ( All RTDs are to be platinum 100 ohm at 00C.)
• one pump case high temperature stem-sensitive RTD,
• pump vibration switch, and
• one pump seal failure pressure switch
The electrical devices shall be rated for Class I, Division 2, NEMA 7, Group D, and
switches will have double pole, double-throw contacts.
The Seller shall install the pump protective devices and shall wire pump in a rigid
galvanized conduit with #14 THW wire to Buchanan terminal strips in a Crouse Hinds (or
equal) explosion-proof junction box mounted on one corner of the skid.
Drawings for the installation of the conduit, wiring, and junction box shall be submitted
for approval prior to their installation.
The junction box and terminal strips shall be sized for 20 percent spare terminals.
9. INSPECTION
Buyer reserves the right to inspect materials, manufacturing, and fabrication and to
witness tests at any time. Seller shall provide the required access for such inspections
and test witnessing. Seller shall not deliver the specified item until inspected by Buyer's
Inspector or agent. Buyer reserves the right to waive tests.
10. TESTING
Before delivery, the pump shall be hydrostatically tested to 1.5 times the maximum
allowable working pressure for a period of 4 continuous hours. A notarized certification
of the hydrostatic test shall be made by the vendor, and recorded certified graphs shall
be furnished to Buyer. No machining shall be permitted after hydrostatic testing unless
the complete hydrostatic test is again performed after machining.
The pump's performance shall be tested at the factory for head, capacity, and efficiency
in accordance with Hydraulic Institute Standards, and a complete test report, including
data and performance curves, is to be furnished for the pump. The results of these tests
will be compared against the guarantees. The Buyer will be given adequate notice
regarding the time when these tests will be made in the event the Buyer desires to have
personnel present.
