South Korea And the United States Perspective

North Korea developing Nuclear Weapons is a big risk to the United States, South Korea
and the world. The United States would not tolerate the threats North Korea have made.
Although there are many reasons why North Korea developed Nuclear Weapons the best
reason was to get revenge against the United States.

Since the Beginning of the North Koreans Nuclear program, the United States has opposed
North Korea developing nuclear weapons due the risk of millions of North South Koreans
and Americans dying. The Nuclear weapons that North Korea have in their arsenal are 1000
time more powerful than the 1945 Hiroshima Atomic bomb. Nuclear Weapons can cause
mass destruction, for example, millions of people can die on impact and the survivors will
have a high chance of getting cancer or radiation poisning. The destruction doesn’t stop
there, big cities will be wiped out and the land is useless for the foreseeable future. Other
effects include Birth defects of humans and animals, radiation modified plants and other
living things. For example, a deer in Chernobyl had 10 eyes and fish in the river with wolves
with 2 tails. A nuclear war with North Korea and the United States can lead to millions of
deaths after the war that will affect the future generations.

The United States did the right thing when North Korea Developed nuclear weapons in the
1990s by implementing sanctions. Even though sanctions were supposed to stop North
Korea from developing Nuclear weapons the United States made an effort to stop North
Korea to withdraw from the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and negotiated with
Pyongyang to freeze Nuclear activities in exchange for light water reactors and energy
assistance from the United States. The agreement broke down in 2002. The poorest country
sacrificed feeding their citizens and continued to develop them spending almost 2.5 billion
dollars every year.

Many South Korean in the 1990s were against the development and use of nuclear weapons
and were worried that there would be a nuclear war and the North and the south signed an
agreement not to use or test any nuclear weapons. The north abandoned in 1996 after
tension between the United States and North Korea.

North Korea claims that they only have nuclear weapons just to protect themselves from an
attack but the United States believes there is some thing more sinister. Many times, in the
past North Korea has used Nuclear weapons to leverage sanctions and to gain more power
and influence in the world.

The United States have said we do not won’t to go back to war with North Koreans we need
to de nuclearize North Korea so the hermit kingdom won’t have a chance to attack the
United States and our allies. The damage and deaths that will follow in a nuclear war is to
big. We will continue to negotiate with North Korea for a peace agreement.

To sum up the United States is against North Korea using their nuclear weapons and wants
them to de nuclearize. But North Korea is in no hurry to do what the United States wants.
Our main goal is to negotiate and not start a nuclear war with North Korea.
