Think Tank Impact

Week Three Assignment

Fictional Case Study

I. Name of Think Tank: Global Impact Thinkers Network (GITN)

Name of Individuals in Group: Chidinma Efeshodimhe, Cutler Hollist, Idowu Samuel Adebayo, Jorge
Rosa, and Lambert Nduwayezu

II. Mission Statement:

At GITN, our mission statement is to promote the ideals of classical liberty and free enterprise as the
best method of economic development and to reduce government intervention in the free market.

III. Organizational Structure:

GITN has a president, researcher, communication director, development director, two administrative
staff and three interns

IV. Presenting Problem:

The problem presently facing the think tank is organizational structure.

Think Tank is new and it became difficult to structure the organization for the take off.

Also, it does not have sufficient financial support to fund many staff, its members voluntarily give
their work.

We need more volunteers dedicated to the dissemination of the proposals, we need to cover
different areas to have greater coverage.

Additionally, more representatives are needed to achieve a critical mass of representation in order to
take our proposals to the parliaments and be heard.

In addition, office equipment is needed for each available staff office, such as PCs, notebooks,
projectors, printers, desks, etc.

V. Possible Solutions:

1) To find some public or private institution, that has similar ideas to our mission that lends us a
physical place where to take our activities.

2) Ask for voluntary contributions to sectors of industry, trade, finance, etc because the ideas of
free trade that include lower taxes and tariffs, will benefit the population with lower prices
and therefore will empower industries, businesses and financial institutions to have a lower
tax burden.

3) Hold meetings in universities, high schools, public places, etc. to promote our ideas, adhere to
people who are in tune with our cause asking for monetary donations and those who want to

join our association can contribute with volunteer work.

4) Ask free society donors for donations of obsolete equipment for them (notebooks, projectors,
desks, etc.) so we can settle in a physical place without having to spend a lot of money.

5) To contact political parties that have ideas related to liberalism in order to be able to
participate in projects related to our ideas and mission

VI. Course of Action:

The first course of action for this think tank in the organisation size. Organisational size plays a
substantial and important role in determining the ideal structure of the think tank: the larger the
organisation, the greater need for increased complexity and divisions to achieve synergy. Smaller and
more agile companies tend to thrive better in uncertain or constantly changing markets, while larger,
more structured companies function best in consistent, predictable environments.

The environment in which this think tank will be based is another challenge that needs to be
confronted. For this think tank to succeed in its operations, the think tank must adapt to uncertainty
in its environments. Organisations in a highly uncertain environment must prioritize adaptability over
a more rigid and functional strategy. Alternatively, a fixed and specific approach to organisational
structure will capture more value in a free market where uncertainties are unlimited.

Another environmental factor that decide organisational structure is competition. In the week two of
this course reading and case study, we read about competitive advantage in the environment an
organisation operates. Higher levels of competition require different organisational structures to
offset competitors’ advantages while emphasizing the company’s own strengths.

A critical analysis of SWOT analysis will help this think tank to function effectively. The think tank
strengths and weaknesses will be assessed in the context of the opportunities and threats in the
environment it operates. A SWOT analysis enables an organisation to identify the ideal structure to
maximize its internal strengths while capturing external opportunities and avoiding threats from
other competitors.

Finally technology also impacts organisational structure by enhancing the efficiency of communication
and resource flow. Organisations use technological tools to enhance and initiate new and more
efficient structural designs for the think tank. These use of technology becomes a potential source of
competitive advantage. An example of an organisational structure emerging from technology is virtual
organisation which connects a network of organisations via the internet.

VII. Impact Summary

We are convinced that our 5 step course of action will help immensely to advanced our mission to
accelerate economic freedom with strong impact.
