O Sai! Govardhan, a very famous place

of Hindu pilgrimage, is located 26 km west of
Mathura (154 km from New Delhi) on the state
highway to Deeg (a town and a municipality
in Bharatpur district in the state of Rajasthan,
India). Govardhan is located on a narrow
sandstone hill known as Giriraj which is about
8 km in length.
The legends in Vishnu Puran have it that the
people of Gokul used to worship and offer prayer
to Lord Indra; because they believed that it was
he who sent rains for their welfare. But, Lord
Krishna told them that it was Mount Govardhan
and not Lord Indra who caused rains; therefore,
they should worship the former and not the Your mind that, one evening there was one of the
latter. People did the same; and it made Lord most terrific storms that were ever experienced
Indra so furious that the people of Gokul had in Shirdi, and the entire village was flooded
to face very heavy rains as a result of his anger. with incessant rains. The many local deities
Then, Lord Krishna came forward to ensure and nature gods were sought to be appeased,
their security; and after performing worship and but in vain. At last people came to You with the
offering prayers to Mount Govardhan, lifted prayer to quell the storm. You calmly came out
the Govardhan hill up with His little finger and to the edge of the Dwarkamai - Masjid, saying,
held it like an umbrella for 7 days to protect “Stop! Calm your fury!”, and ordered the storm
the people and the cattle of Vrindavan from the to cease its rage. Lo, within a few moments,
torrential rain. the clouds passed away and things returned to
O Baba! It must have been still fresh to normal. (Shri Sai Sat Charita, Chapter XI)

Thus, O Sai! You guarded the people and
the cattle of Shirdi from the hammering rains
and terrific storm.
Shri Krishna and Shirdi Sai Baba are really
Non-Different and act exactly alike…
O Sai! You are Omniscient. You know very
well that King Parikshit once entered the hut of a
sage named Samika as he was thirsty. He found
the sage in deep meditation. He bowed to him
several times. But, as there was no response,
he took a dead snake and threw it around the
sage’s neck. Later when the sage’s son Shringi
heard of this incident, he cursed the king to die
of snake bite on the 7th day.
On hearing this, the king forswore the
throne for his son Janamejay and spent his last 7
days listening to the discourses of the great sage
Sukadev Goswami, compiled as the Bhagavat
Puran (Shrimad Bhagavatam), under the banyan
tree at Shukratal.
After hearing all that was narrated to him
by Sukadev Goswami, Maharaj Parikshit spoke

as follows,
“My Lord, I now have no fear of Takshak
or any other living being, or even of repeated
deaths; because I have absorbed myself in that
purely spiritual Absolute Truth, which you have
revealed and which destroys all fear.”
King Parikshit then sat down on the bank
of the Ganges, upon a seat made of darbha grass
with the tips of its stalks facing east, and turned
himself toward the north. He experienced
full self-realization and was free of material
attachment and doubt.
As prophesied, the winged snake Takshak
went flying toward the King Parikshit on the 7th
day, and bit him. King Parikshit left his mortal
remains behind and attained Moksha.
Here, the readers might well ask : ‘Why
the King Parikshit had to die even after hearing
sacred Shrimad Bhagavatam. Why didn’t the
Almighty Lord Krishna exercise His powers
to save King Parikshit from the snake bite,
when the latter was so devoted to the former?’

This inquisitiveness might probably be quite
genuinely wise. But, the following fact will
definitely serve as a convincing answer.
The same Supreme Lord Krishna had earlier
protected Parikshit, by entering into the womb
of his mother Uttara from the fiery weapon
released by Ashwathama. (Mahabharata, Book
10 : Sauptika Parva, Chapter 16)
This time the Lord didn’t, because as
narrated above : After hearing all that was
narrated to him by Sukadev Goswami, Maharaj
Parikshit had no fear of Takshak or any other
living being, or even of repeated deaths, because
he had absorbed himself in that purely spiritual
Absolute Truth, which Sukadev Goswami had
revealed and which destroyed all fear.
Now, Maharaj Parikshit wanted to live no
more; he wanted to achieve Moksha (salvation).
O Sai! Had Parikshit wished to survive the
venomous snake bite, Lord Krishna would have

undoubtedly saved him, in exactly the same
way as You had counteracted poison after one of
Your devotees Shama was bit by a deadly snake.
Your act of raining down mercy on Shama is
beautifully illustrated in Shri Sai Sat Charita,
Chapter XXIII
Madhavrao Deshpande alias Shama was
one of Your staunch devotees. He was once
bitten by a snake. The poison soon started
Shri Sai Sat Charita, Chapter XXIII
spreading into his entire body, causing severe
pain. He came rushing to seek Your aid. No
sooner did he start climbing the steps up of the
Dwarkamai - Masjid than You shouted, “Damn
fool! Be alert! Do not climb up! Get down the
stairs of the Masjid! Get thee hence, satan!”
Shama naturally felt disturbed and
evidently got confused on receipt of such kind
of harsh reception from You. But, it wasn’t too
late, and a controlled cool down soon followed.
Subsequently, You invited Shama to climb up
the steps of the Dwarkamai and lovingly offered
him a seat by Your side. You then, with motherly

affection, consoled Shama thus : “My dear
child! Don’t worry. Be mindful of Allah, and
Allah will protect you. Go to your house and eat
as per your likes. Keep moving around without
lying down, and sacrifice tonight’s sleep.”
O Baba! It’s needless to say that Your
instructions were complied with without any ifs
and buts, and Shama soon regained his health.
The truth of the situation was that the initial
unwelcome words uttered by You were not
meant for Shama, but were aimed at the toxic
poison as an instructive warning to refrain it
from spreading through Shama’s body.
O Sai! You granted Shama additional years
of life; because he, unlike Parikshit, didn’t want
to die, but longed to survive the snake bite. Lo!
By Your blessings, he outlived You, and died
only in the year 1939 i.e. 21 years after Your
taking Mahasamadhi in the year 1918.

O Sai! In the holy month of Kartik (In
the reformed Indian national civil calendar,
Kartik is the eighth month of the year),
thousands of devotees perform the parikrama
(circumambulation) of Giriraj Govardhan,
reveling in the joyful, transcendental atmosphere
of Govardhan. They walk barefoot the 23 km
path around Govardhan, or perform dandavat
parikrama i.e. prostrating circumambulation
(dandavat parikrama is performed by standing
in one spot, offering obeisance like a stick
(danda) by lying flat on the ground and then

continuing, contiguously, till the entire route is
covered.), which may take weeks, chanting the
Lord’s name and glorifying Giriraj Govardhan
praying for pure loving devotion unto the Lotus
Feet of Shri Shri Radha Girdhari.
O Baba! It would certainly delight my
fellow Sai devotees to know that when Chaitanya
Mahaprabhu did parikrama (circumambulation)
of Govardhan Hill while visiting Vrindavan in
1515 AD, he did not walk on the hill; because
he considered Govardhan as non-different from
Lord Krishna.
O Sai! The identity of Krishna and
Govardhan Hill is still honoured, and great
devotees take rocks from Govardhan Hill and
worship them exactly as they worship the
Deity of Krishna in the temples, considering
Govardhan as non-different from Krishna. The
form of Krishna who began to eat the offerings
was separately constituted, and Krishna Himself
along with other inhabitants of Vrindavan
began to offer obeisance to the Deity as well
as Govardhan Hill. In offering obeisance to the
huge form of Krishna Himself and Govardhan
Hill, Krishna declared, “Just see how Govardhan
Hill has assumed this huge form and is favouring
us by accepting all the offerings.” Krishna also
declared at that meeting, “One who neglects the
worship of Govardhan Pooja, as I am personally
conducting it, will not be happy. There are
many snakes on Govardhan Hill, and persons
neglecting the prescribed duty of Govardhan
Pooja will be bitten by these snakes and killed.
In order to assure the good fortune of the cows
and themselves, all people of Vrindavan near
Govardhan must worship the hill, as prescribed
by me.”
O Baba! Krishna’s prescription as
safeguard against snake bite reminds me of Your
oft-repeated words : “This is our Dwarkamai...
She wards off all dangers and anxieties of its
children. This Masjidmai (its Presiding Deity) is
very merciful; she is the mother of all devotees,
whom she will save in times of calamities. Once
a person sits on its lap, all his troubles are over.
He, who rests in her shade, gets bliss.” (Shri Sai

Sat Charita, Chapter XXII)
The numerous stories, related with
Balasaheb Mirikar, Bapusaheb Booty, Amir
Shakkar and Hemadpant that are narrated in
Shri Sai Sat Charita, Chapter XXII, serve as
testimony to these words of Yours : “The snake
is so terrible, but what it can do to the children of
Dwarkamai! When Dwarkamai (the Presiding
Deity) protects, how the serpent can harm!”

O Sai! Although Arjun was considered a
man of wisdom properly raised and educated
in the Vedic culture, still illusion had entered
his consciousness. Hence Lord Krishna had to
teach him.
Lord Krishna instructs Arjun to fall at the
feet of self-realised beings, rendering service to
them with faith and devotion, and inquire from
them with a pure heart about the purpose of life,
the true nature of a living being and how to revive
one’s relationship with the Supreme Being :
Tat viddhi pranipatena
pariprashnena sevaya I
Upadekshyanti te gyanam
gyaninah tattva darshinah II
(Bhagvad Gita - Chapter 4, Shlok 34)
(Just try to learn the truth by approaching a
spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively
and render service unto him. The self-realized

soul can impart knowledge unto you, because
he has seen the truth.)
O Baba! It wasn’t a surprise to see You
enacting the same role of Lord Krishna before
one of Your devotees Nanasaheb Chandorkar,
while - one day - the latter was tenderly
massaging Your legs in the Dwarkamai-Masjid,
and was mumbling the above 34th shlok from
the 4th Chapter of the Bhagvad Gita with perfect
pronunciation.
Although Nanasaheb Chandorkar was a
great scholar of Vedant and Sanskrit, still his
vidya vasana was very powerful. The concept
of ‘I am a learned man’, ‘I know all the vedas’,
‘I must consider everything in my own style and
cannot accept somebody else’s dictum’ are all
vidya vasana traces, and all of them are fatal to
one’s chance of attaining Mukti.
So, O Baba! You, like Lord Krishna, had
to teach him the true purport of the above 34th
shlok from the 4th Chapter of the Bhagvad Gita.

Krishna to Bapusaheb Booty who constructed
Baba’s Samadhi Mandir. As per Baba’s desire,
Baba’s holy body was placed and preserved in
the central shrine meant for Murlidhar/Lord
Krishna and Baba Himself became Murlidhar
and the Bootywada became the Samadhi
Mandir of Sai Baba. Baba Himself named His

Masjid as Dwarkamai, and Dwarkamai proved
to be perfectly the abode of Lord Krishna, Who
is none other than Baba Himself in His present
Manifestation.
O Sai! Lord Balaram expands into the
great serpent known as Anant, or Sheshanag.
He reposes on the causal ocean and serves
as the couch upon whom Lord Maha Vishnu
reclines. (Brahma-samhita, 5.47) That Anant
Shesha is the devotee incarnation of God who
knows nothing, but service to Lord Krishna.
With His thousands of mouths, He always
sings the endless glories of Lord Krishna. He
also expands himself to serve as Lord Krishna’s
paraphernalia, including such items as the
umbrella, slippers, bedding, pillow, garments,
resting chair, residence, sacred Gayatri thread,
and throne in the pastimes of Lord Krishna.

Shri Sai Baba - God or Guru ?
Shri Sai Baba always said, “Allah Malik”,
or ‘‘Allah achchha karega” (Good will happen
with God’s will). He never took any credit for the
miraculous doings, but attributed it to God.
Shri Sai Baba had a divinity, which was evident
right from the moment He stepped in Shridi. There
were many, who the moment they cast their eyes
could immediately recognize His divinity.
Gangagir, of Vaishnav sect visited Shirdi very
frequently. When he first saw Baba carrying pitchers
of water in both hands, he said, “Blessed is this
Shirdi to have got this jewel. This Man carrying
water today is no ordinary soul. As Shirdi has
accumulated merits, it has secured this jewel.”
A well-known saint, Anandnath of Yeola math,
a disciple of Akkalkot Maharaj, when he saw Baba,
exclaimed, “He is a precious diamond; you will
realize this in the near future.” The prophecies were
made, when Baba was young. And, in due course of
time, they were proved right.
Gaulibuva, 95-year old warkari (pilgrim on
foot), who regularly visited Pandharpur, also was
devoted to Sai Baba and visited Shirdi every year.
He would say, “This is the merciful Pandharinath
Incarnate.”

There are unparalleled events that were noted
by devotees, which is not possible for a mere human
being to perform. A few examples cited below will
elaborate this point...
It is believed that a bath in the holy waters of
Prayag, the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna is
sacred. Once, Das Ganu wished to go to Prayag for
a bath, and sought Baba’s permission for doing so.
Baba replied, “It is not necessary to travel so far.
Shirdi itself is Prayag. Let there be firm faith in your
mind”. Then wonder of wonders happened! When
Das Ganu placed his head on Baba’s Feet, out came
a stream of Ganga and Yamuna from both His toes.
At the sight of this miracle, Das Ganu was choked
with emotion.
On one Makar Sankranti day, Megha wanted
to apply sandalwood paste and bathe Baba with
water from the Godavari river. He considered Baba
as Lord Shiva, and knew abhishek (sacred bath)
on that auspicious day, would please Shiva. Baba
tried dissuading Megha, but gave in, when He was
persistent. So, before sunrise, Megha set out to
traverse 16 miles (both ways), without an umbrella
or any other protection.
He brought the holy water and made
preparations for the bath at noon. Baba then again

asked Megha to spare Him from this bath saying
what a fakir like Him has to do with Ganga water.
But, Megha was persistent, so Baba came and sat
on the wooden board and said, “The head is the
important part, so pour a little water on it, which
is as good as a whole bath. At least do this much.”
Megha acquiesced.
Then he lifted the pot and in a burst of
overwhelming love cried ‘‘Har Har Gange’’ and
poured the entire pot of water on Baba’s head. But,
when he kept the pot down and looked at Baba’s
head, he was astonished to see only Baba’s head was
wet, but not a drop stayed on His clothes or body.
This was Baba’s leela of indulging a devotee’s wish
and reaffirming his faith.
Baba had perfect control over the nature. He
could at mere glance enhance or lighten the fire, or
clear the overcast skies.
One evening, a terrible storm started blowing in
Shirdi. Wild winds, heavy rain and lightening struck
out with ferocity. Bird, beasts and man took shelter
and grew frightened with every passing moment.
There are many Gods and Goddesses in Shirdi,
but the people made a supplication to their living
God - Sai Baba. And, hearing their prayers, Sai’s
heart melted. He came to the edge of the mosque
and shouted loudly. Immediately the rain and wind
abated and after a while stopped. Everyone thanked
Baba and went their way.
Once, in the afternoon, the flames from the
dhuni, started flaring up. In no time it started reaching
the wooden planks of the ceiling in the mosque.
Everyone present was watching the growing fire
with dismay, as it could burn down the mosque. But,
none dared to do anything to quell it or rouse Baba
from His trance. Then Baba Himself realised the
situation and started striking His baton against the
column and looking at the dhuni said, ‘‘Calm down’’
and with every stroke, the flames started subsiding.
Baba had perfect control over the elements.
On Dhanteras day in 1910, Baba was sitting
near the dhuni putting logs in the fire. But, all of a
sudden instead of a log, He thrust His hand in the fire
and scorched it.
Shama, who was standing nearby, noticed this
and ran immediately. Holding Baba tightly round
the waist he pulled Baba away from the dhuni.

Baba, with a start, came out of a trance. Shama
enquired, why He had thrust His hand in the fire.
Baba explained, “When the blacksmith called out to
his wife, she began to blow the bellows vigorously,
unmindful of the child she was holding in the armpit.
The vigorous activity resulted in the child slipping
and falling into the fire. I picked up the child and
scorched my hand, but at least the child’s life is
saved.”
On seeing Baba’s severely scorched hand,
Shama wrote a letter to Nanasaheb Chandorkar, and
the latter came to Shirdi with Dr. Paramanand. From
the day the hand was burnt, Bhagoji Shinde was
massaging it with ghee, then covered it with a leaf
and bandaged it tightly every day.
Baba kept on postponing, showing His hand to
the doctor, by saying, “Allah is our vaidya (healer).”
In due course of time, the hand healed and everyone
was relieved.
But, till Baba’s Mahasamdhi (1918), every
morning Bhagoji, regularly tended to His hand,
massaging it and then bandaging it. Bhagoji, had his
body festered with bleeding sores, due to leprosy.
His fingers and toes had fallen and his entire body
was repulsive, due to the stinking sores. Baba, being
a siddha, did He really need treatment? It was for the
welfare of the devotees that He allowed the service.
One day, Baba was sitting in His usual place in
the mosque; suddenly He shouted, “Oh!” The next
moment His headdress and kafni were drenched and
water started dripping from it for more than half an
hour. Soon a pool of water gathered near Baba. The
devotees were amazed, but none dared ask Baba,
how He got drenched all of a sudden. They silently
swept the floor and dried Baba’s clothes.
After three days, Baba received a telegram from
a devotee, Jehangirji Framji Daruwala, who thanked
Baba for saving his life. The full story connected
with the incident was revealed later. Jehangirji was
a naval captain during the Russo-Japanese war and
he found all his ships, except three, were sunk by
the enemy. When he feared that the three including
his own would soon be sunk, he took out Baba’s
photograph from his pocket and with tears in his
eyes prayed to Baba to save him and his three ships.
Baba at once appeared and towed the ships to safety.
Baba had the eight siddhis (extraordinary

powers) like anima, mahima, laghima, etc. serving
Him with folded hands. These siddhis allow a being
to change size, shape, etc. at will. And illustrating this
point is the following leela...
A devotee gave Baba a four feet long and three-
quarter foot wide wooden plank. Baba suspended the
plank from the ceiling with worn out clothes. The
plank was seven feet above the ground and Baba
would keep four earthen lamps, one on each corner
and lie on the plank. The devotees wondered how
Baba climbed such a height without upsetting the
earthen lamps, etc. Evidently, the siddhis had to do
something with this incredible leela.
There were scores of events, which highlighted
the prowess of Baba. He, time and again, went to the
aid of devotees, saving their lives, warning them off
danger; and for ever working for their worldly and
spiritual progress.
As Baba’s mahima (fame) kept spreading,
more and more people started thronging to Shirdi.
The devotees, who came to Baba, placed flowers
at His Feet and prostrated in reverence. Baba tried
dissuading them and suggested, they pray to the God
in their temples. But, the devotees said that they had
accepted Him as their living God. Over a period of
time, Baba relented.
In 1900, Baburao N. Chandorkar, aged four,
innocently applied sandal paste on Baba’s forehead,
as they apply to God’s image; Baba did not object.
After this, the others were allowed to apply it too.
Prior to this, only Mhalsapati was allowed to apply
the paste to Baba’s throat; the others applied it to
His Feet.
The first man to offer Aarati Pooja to Baba was
Tatyasaheb Nulkar. One day, he lit two lamps and
waved it before Baba; thence, he did it regularly.
After his demise, it was conducted by Megha; and
after Megha’s death Bapusaheb Jog performed the
Pooja.
From 1908 the individual worship turned into a
congregational worship. There were no fixed rituals
for the Pooja or songs for the Aarati, till Krishnarao
Bhishma wrote the songs for the Aarati. Later, some
songs of Das Ganu and Upasani Baba were also
added. From 1904, Dada Kelkar started performing
Guru Pooja on Guru Pournima day, which continues
till today.

Though the faith of Baba’s bhaktas (devotees)
kept on getting firmer and firmer that He was none
other than God, Baba Himself never accepted
this. He always said, “Yade Haq”, which means
‘I remember God’ and never said, “Anhal Haq”,
which means ‘I am God’.
Another instance highlights this...
Once, a number of devotees came to Baba and
asked Him, whether the Puranas were true. Baba
replied in the affirmative. Then the devotees asked
Him, who were Ram and Krishna; Baba replied
that they were Avatars (incarnations) of God. The
devotees informed Baba that Prof. G. G. Narke did
not accept Him as God. Baba said, “What he says is
true. God exists for those who believe. Follow your
faith and as you are devotees, you should not listen to
such talk. I am your father and you should not speak
like that.”
Baba was a Siddha (possessing extraordinary
powers); but behaved like a Sadhak (spiritual
aspirant). ‘Allah Malik’ was constantly on His lips.
He knew no attachment to things of this world or
beyond. He was totally absorbed in the Self. His
speech was nectar sweet. He was ever vigilant for
the welfare of all. For Him, the rich and poor were
alike, even the animals were one with Him.
He was wise, but never made a pompous show
of it. He did not leave His place, yet knew everything
that took place in the world. Though outwardly He
held a royal durbar (court) regularly and related a
thousand stories, yet, inwardly He was committed to
silence. His inner self was like the tranquil sea. He
was beyond dualities (joy and sorrow, love and hate,
etc.). He did not aspire to be recognized or honoured.
Baba was a God or Guru - a devotee will realize
this with Baba’s grace.

Shri Guru Pournima festival, organized by
Shri Sai Baba Sansthan, this year like every year,
passed off amidst chants of Shri Sai Baba’s name
in an enthusiastic and auspicious atmosphere, from
Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13. Lakhs of devotees
availed the Darshan of Shri Sai Baba’s Samadhi on
the main day of Guru Pournima. The Sansthan’s and
surrounding premises were fully crowded with Sai
devotees.
The Guru - shishya (teacher-student) tradition
is very ancient. Ashadhi Pournima is celebrated as

Guru Pournima to express gratitude to our teachers.
This Pournima is also known as Vyas worship (day).
The tradition of celebrating Guru Pournima in Shirdi
commenced from the period of Shri Sai Baba’s
incarnation. Therefore, this day has extra-ordinary
significance. Innumerable devotees with faith in
Shri Sai Baba come to Shirdi on Guru Pournima
every year and take the Darshan of Shri Sai Baba’s
Samadhi and participate in the festival.
About 50 palkhis (palanquins) arrived in Shirdi
from all over Maharashtra and other states for the
Guru Pournima festival. The Shri Sai Baba Palkhi
Sohla (function) Committee, Pune’s palkhi from
Pune, in particular, drew the attention of all. Shirdi
reverberated with the sound of dhol (drum) beats by
the dhol squads that accompanied the palkhis.
75,000 sq. ft. of cloth mandaps (temporary
sheds) were erected at various places in the temple
and surrounding premises by the Sansthan, for the
convenience of Sai devotees. 275 quintals of sugar
ladoos (a sweetmeat) were prepared to ensure

easy availability of ladoo prasad (blessing) to the
Sai devotees. Free shelter facility for padayatris
(pilgrims on foot) accompanying the palkhis was
arranged at the Sai Ashram Dharmshala (charitable
rest house) - phase 2.
Shri Sai Baba’s Kakad Aarati was done on
Friday, July 11, the first day of the festival at 4.30
a.m. After that at 5 a.m. a Shobhayatra (grand
procession) of Shri Sai Baba’s Photo, Shri Sai Sat
Charita Granth (holy book) and the Veena was taken
from the Sai temple to Dwarkamai. Sri Kundankumar
Sonawane, Member of the 3-Members Managing
Committee and Executive Officer of the Sansthan,
Sri Appasaheb Shinde, Deputy Executive Officer,
Sri Bhausaheb Sabale and Sri Subhash Garkal,
Administrative Officers and others participated in
the Shobhayatra. After the Shobhayatra reached
Dwarkamai, akhand parayan (non-stop reading) of
Shri Sai Sat Charita commenced. Sri Kundankumar
Sonawane, Executive Officer read the first chapter
and Sri Appasaheb Shinde, Deputy Executive Officer
read the second chapter. Shri Sai Baba was given the
holy bath at 5.20 a.m. The Padyapooja (worship of
the holy feet) of Shri Sai Baba was done at 6 a.m. by

the Sai Samadhi Mandir, from 7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
All the artistes, who participated in the programme
were felicitated on behalf of the Sansthan. At 9.15

akhand parayan (non-stop reading) of Shri Sai Sat
Chrita was on for the festival, Dwarkamai was kept
open throughout the night.
Saturday, July 12 was the main day of the
festival. Shri Sai Baba’s Kakad Aarati was done
at 4.30 a.m. After that at 5 a.m. a Shobhayatra
of Shri Sai Baba’s Photo, Shri Sai Sat Charita
Granth (holy book) and the Veena was taken
from Dwarkamai to Gurusthan and from there to
Sai Samadhi Mandir. Sri Shashikant Kulkarni,
Chairman of the 3-Members Managing Committee
of the Sansthan, Sri Kundankumar Sonawane,
Member and Executive Officer of the Sansthan, Sri
Appasaheb Shinde, Deputy Executive Officer and
others participated in this Shobhayatra. Villagers
and Sai devotees were present in this Shobhayatra
in large numbers. After the akhand parayan and the
holy bath of Shri Sai Baba, the Aarati ‘Shirdi majhe

wife took the Darshan of Shri Sai Baba’s Samadhi
in the morning.

Samadhi Mandir, from 7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. All
the artistes, who participated in the programme were
felicitated on behalf of the Sansthan. At 9.15 p.m. a
Shobhayatra of Shri Sai Baba’s Golden Chariot, was
taken from the Sai Samadhi Mandir to Dwarkamai
and from there through the Shirdi town. Local bhajan
troupes and squads of varied instruments – cymbals,
lezims and bands, participated in the Shobhayatra.

‘Sainchya Sannidhyat’ (Marathi) now in book form

Sou Mugdha Sudhir Divadkar’s
series ‘Sainchya Saanidhyat’ (Marathi) is
being regularly published in Shri Sai Baba
Sansthan’s periodical ‘Saileela’ since several
years in instalments. Anubandh Prakashan of
Pune has now published this popular series
in a book form. After placing the book at
the Holy Feet of Shri Sai Baba in the Sai
Samadhi Mandir on the auspicious occasion
of Guru Pournima, Sri Kundankumar
Sonawane, Executive Officer of the Sansthan
released the holy book in the presence of
Sri Appasaheb Shinde, Deputy Executive Officer, Sri Mohan Yadav, Public Relations Officer, Sou Mugdha
Sudhir Divadkar, the author of this book, Sri Sudhir Divadkar, Sri Anil Kulkarni, the publisher, Sou Asmita
Anil Kulkarni, Sri Prakash Samant, DTP operator for the Sansthan’s periodicals Saileela (Marathi), Shri Sai
Leela (Hindi-English) and others related. The biographies of 77 Sai devotees, who had the fortune of being
with Shri Sai Baba, have been portrayed in this book.

Gopalkala kirtan, the dahi-handi (pot of curd) was
broken in the Sai Samadhi Mandir at 12 noon and

of the Sansthan.
Shri Sai Baba’s Dhooparati was done at 7
p.m.
‘Sai Milan ki Aas’ programme was presented
by Sri Vishwanath Ojha (Srirampur) on the stage
beside the Sai Samadhi Mandir, from 7.30 p.m.
to 10.30 p.m. All the artistes, who participated in
the programme were felicitated on behalf of the
Sansthan.

heads and employees under the guidance of Sri
Shashikant Kulkarni, Chairman of the 3-Members
Managing Committee of the Sansthan and Principal
District and Sessions Judge (Ahmednagar), Sri

efforts for the successful conduct of the festival.

the entire floral decoration in the temple and surrounding premises and Sairaj Decorators of Mumbai
and their associates did the spectacular electric lighting in the temple and surrounding premises free
of cost.
* 2 lakh Sai devotees were served free prasad meal in the Sai Prasadalaya during the festival
days from the generous donation made by Shravani and Sarathi Kalvapalli (Secunderabad), Vrunda
Sundaram (New Delhi), Karumudi Venkatraman Reddy (Chirala), Adhyan Narang (Mumbai),
Anil Dighikar (Mumbai), Ghanshamdas Ramkisan Masani (Gondia), Sunil Agrawal (Mumbai),
Shivprakash Gupta (Mumbai), Sudish Timmaraju (Hyderabad), Karanam Narayan (Hyderabad),
Shishir Pandeya (Sai Graphic, Jabalpur) and Ponnapula Parthasarthy and Sulochana Kartik Sanjay

* 2.5 lakh ladoo packets were distributed free of cost to Sai devotees in the Darshan queue.
* Various television channels aired live telecast of the festival that enabled innumerable Sai
devotees to have Darshan, direct in their homes.
* Ambulances and medical teams were kept in readiness to handle any emergencies.
Hail! Hail! Sadguru, treasury of mercy. Hail! Hail! Dweller on the banks of the river Godavari. Hail! Hail! Brahma, Shankar
and Vishnu, Incarnation of Datta. I bow to You. Brahma’s Brahmanand cannot exist without the Sadguru. I offer my five
pranas to You and with total dedication surrender to You for protection. I bow my head in obeisance, press His Feet with
my hands, gaze at His face, and inhale the sacred water which washes His Feet. Keep listening to the praises of Sai;
enshrine His image in the mind and incessantly meditate on Sai. This will break your bonds with worldly life. Offer body,
mind and wealth completely at the Feet of the Sadguru. Spend the entire life serving the Guru. The name of the Guru and
the intimate association with the Guru, the grace of the Guru and the milk-like sacred water which has washed His Feet;
the sacred ‘mantra’ from the Guru and residence in His household - these could be obtained with great efforts.

were present on the occasion.
Friday, May 30, 2014 : This year – 2014 is
being celebrated as the golden jubilee year to mark
the completion of 50 years of Shri Sainath Hospital
of Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi). About
2000 patients availed benefit of the various free
camps organized to commemorate the occasion.
Diabetes check-up and awareness camp was
organized on Saturday, May 3, 2014. 160 patients
participated in this. Renowned diabetologist Dr.
Deepak Bhosale of Aurangabad guided the patients.
Free eye check-up and cataract operation camp was
organized from Monday, May 5, 2014 to Saturday,
May 10, 2014. 1346 needy patients availed services
of this camp. The hospital’s ophthalmologists
successfully operated 175 patients with cataract.
Similarly, free ear check-up and hearing aids
distribution camp was organized from Monday, May
19, 2014 to Wednesday, May 21, 2014. 755 patients
availed the benefit of this camp and 300 patients
were given hearing aids. A workshop on ‘Stress-free
and happy life’ was organized from Tuesday, May
20, 2014 to Saturday, May 24, 2014, in association
with Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwa
Vidyalay, for the employees of the Sansthan. All
case papers for patients in the OPD were given free
throughout the month of May, 2014.

Deputy Executive Officer took great efforts for the
successful conduct of these camps.
Tuesday, June 17, 2014 : 244 patients availed
the free eye check-up at the eye check-up camp
jointly organized by the Shri Sai Baba Sansthan
Trust (Shirdi) and Lions Club of Shirdi at the Shri
Sainath Hospital, informed Executive Officer of the
Sansthan, Sri Kundankumar Sonawane.
Sri Sonawane stated that a free eye check-up
and cataract operation camp was organized from
Wednesday, June 4, 2014 to Friday, June 6, 2014 at the
Shri Sainath Hospital. 244 poor and needy patients
from Shirdi and surrounding areas were examined at
the camp. The Sansthan’s Ophthalmologist Dr. Sunil
Sontakke conducted cataract operation on 107 needy
patients, diagnosed for the same, and with assistance
from the Lions Club of Shirdi free spectacles were
distributed. Dr. Eknath Gondkar, Sri Vasant Kadam,
Sri Vishal Tidke and other members of the Lions
Club of Shirdi graced the occasion.
Medical Director Dr. Prabhakar Rao, Dr.
Sanjay Pathare, Ophthalmologist Dr. Sunil Sontakke
and employees of the Sansthan took great efforts
under the guidance of Deputy Executive Officer Sri
Appaseb Shinde for the successful conduct of the
camp.
