4 Hardware configurations
MANTIS can be installed on various hardware configurations. A distinction is made here between single
workstations, multiple workstations and terminal servers.

4.1 Single workstation

In this case there is only a single computer available for MANTIS.

 MANTIS is then installed locally on

that machine by means of the
MANTIS DVD.

 The Hardlock is inserted in a port

on the computer.

4.2 Multiple workstations

In a multi-workstation environment one computer is available for use as a server. This machine is connected
to other workstations (clients) in a network.

Server

 MANTIS is then installed locally on

the server by means of the
MANTIS DVD.

 The Hardlock is inserted in a port

on the server.

 The client installation is carried out

using Windows Explorer and the
network connection to the server.

Workstation 1 Workstation 2 Workstation 3

4.3 Terminal server

In the terminal-server environment one computer is available for use as the terminal server, which is
connected to one or more terminals.

Server

 MANTIS is then installed locally on

the server by means of the
MANTIS DVD.

 The Hardlock is inserted in a port

on the server.

 Each client is automatically given

the link necessary for starting
MANTIS.

IMPORTANT:
 There is no support for MANTIS and Hardlock installations on domain servers. Similarly, no support can
be provided for constellations or operating systems that do not meet system requirements.

 Installing MANTIS and Hardlock requires sound knowledge of the operating system and the network.

 You will need Administrator rights!

5.1 MANTIS installation

If this is not the case, it is an initial installation, otherwise it is a subsequent installation.
The following windows open in the course of the installation procedure, depending on whether it is an initial
or subsequent installation.
You can find more information on the individual windows below.

are up-to-date.

Page 8

Version 1.2

5.3 Terminal-server installation

IMPORTANT:
 Installing MANTIS and Hardlock requires sound knowledge of the operating system and the network.

 You will need Administrator rights!

Note: The MANTIS installation on the terminal server can only be started from the terminal-server console.
In this way, every user automatically gets a MANTIS installation without having to perform any further action.
Installing MANTIS via the Windows terminal-server console follows exactly the same procedure as the initial
installation described above.

Recommendations:
 All terminal-client users must have their own user profiles.
 Every terminal-client user should have its own home drive with full access rights (e.g. drive H, with
its own Windows directory if applicable).
 When the terminal client's MANTIS is started for the first time, copy the following to the user's home
drive:
- An empty MANTIS directory
- The MANTIS.INI of the server
> The MANTIS directory can also be used as TMPDIR.
In the event that the MANTIS directory or MANTIS.INI file is damaged or deleted, a "fresh" MANTIS
directory or MANTIS.INI file must be copied to the user's home drive.
 Delete the content of the user's TMPDIR when the active terminal session is ended.
WARNING:
if the directory \MANTIS is used as TMPDIR, the following files must be retained:
- MANTIS.INI
- Expert.dat (input made during expert access is stored for reselection)
- TypUser.dat (user-defined master type)
In this context it is recommended that MANTIS.INI be adapted permanently by addition of the
following parameters:

USERDIR='Home drive':\MANTIS
StaticItems=TMPDIR

5.4 MANTIS uninstallation

Uninstalling MANTIS is carried out using the MANTIS program group.

Notes on uninstallation in the terminal-server environment:

Uninstalling MANTIS requires Administrator rights and can only be carried out from the terminal-server
console, not during a terminal-server session.
Please ensure that all MANTIS client sessions are closed before beginning the MANTIS uninstallation.

Click "Uninstall MANTIS" in the MANTIS program group.

A window with two checkboxes opens:
- Select "Remove user data" in order to delete user-specific MANTIS data.
Warning: deleted user data cannot be restored!
- Select "Unistall Hardlock" in order to uninstall the Hardlock drivers (see the "Hardlock uninstallation" section
below).

Click the OK button to start the uninstallation procedure.

Click the Cancel and Exit Setup buttons to abort the uninstallation procedure.
