In this activity, I have learned about report texts, observe’s the text’s social function, structure, and lexico-
grammatical features.

The key features of report texts to do with jobs include

1. Social Function

To inform the target readers, listeners, and viewers about events which are considered important and
relevant to

Them.

2. Text Structure

 Newsworthy Event (s) : summarize the event by mentioning only the important points.
 Events in details : elaborate the events by providing the details of the important points, as stated by the
sources (authority, source person, witness, etc.)

3. Significant Lexicogrammatical Features

 Short, telegraphic informationabout story captured in headline.

 Use of direct and indirect sentences to report the events according to witness(es) and the source
person.
 Dominant use of past tenses.
 Use of preporsitional phrases to state the circumstances.
 Use of non-finite clauses to state the circumstances.
 Possible use of emotive words.

What I like most about this activity

 Are reading and constructing report text.

  To analyze the social functions of the three news reports regarding the issues, the target readers, the
points of interest or importance.
 To analyze the structure of the three news reports, including the headline, the newsworthy event
summarized in the first paragraph, the elaboration of the event in the following paragraphs according to
the sources.

What I need to improve / learn more is

 To read three news report meaningfully and fluently.

 To analyze the social functions of the three news report regarding the issues, the target readers, the
points of interest or importance.
 To analyze the structures of the three news reports, including the headline, the newsworthy even
summarized in the first paragraph, the elaboration of the event in the following paragraphs according to
the sources.
