Past Simple

El pasado simple en inglés expresa:


-un evento que ocurrió en el pasado: We baked cookies yesterday.
-un evento que se repite: We played tennis every Sunday last month.
-un estado donde no tiene lugar acción alguna: We stayed at her house that night.

Regular verbs

AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE


I played football. I didn’t play football. Did I play football?
You played football. You didn’t play football. Did you play football?
He played football. He didn’t play football. Did he play football?
She played football. She didn’t play football. Did she play football?
It played football. It didn’t play football. Did it play football?
We played football. We didn’t play football. Did we play football?
You played football. You didn’t play football. Did you play football?
They played football. They didn’t play football. Did they play football?

1. Los verbos terminados en –e, agregamos –d: I live  I lived, You phone  You phoned
2. Los verbos que terminan en consonante + -y, cambian las –y por –i y agregamos –ed:
We study  We studied
3. Los verbos que terminan en una vocal y una consonante duplican la consonante final y
agregamos –ed: They stop  They stopped
4. Los verbos que terminan en vocal + consonante, agregamos –ed: I play  I played
5. Los verbos que poseen dos o más sílabas y terminan en una vocal y una consonante,
duplican la consonante final si la última sílaba es acentuada: You refer  You referred
6. Los verbos que terminan en –l, siempre duplican la –l: We travel  We travelled

Irregular verbs

Muchos verbos importantes son irregulares. No utilizamos –ed para formar la conjugación
de pasado simple. Por ejemplo: I write  I wrote, I say  I said, I bring  I brought
