DICTATION SENTENCES for ELD CLASSES

Directions:

1. The teacher reads a sentence from the High Point or based on the High
Point vocabulary and/or structures being studied.

2. Students write the sentence on the template

3. The teacher may say the sentence twice

4. Students collaboratively correct the dictation

5. Students complete the accompanying chart as individuals/pairs

6. Students share out (come to the overhead/document camera)

7. The teacher collects and looks over the dictation sentences and makes note
of instructional needs

For differentiation, teachers may also, depending on student needs:

 have more advanced students write and/or read the sentences

 assign different chart sections (1 – 9) to different student pairs/groups

 have students write each word on sentence strips or index cards or stickies
and pairs of students must assemble the words in an order that makes sense
and is grammatical
