Based on my results, I have an eclectic educational philosophy because I acquired almost all of the educational philosophies except for behaviorism. Progressivism, Existentialism, Essentialism. Perennialism, Constructivism and Linguistic Philosophy were some educational philosophies that I acquired. We all know that the main purpose of education is to teach the basic knowledge and skills, to experience the learning itself and to mold or influence the lives of an individual and I do believe that with these educational philosophies that I acquired, I can be flexible to all things that I will be doing just to give the education that my future learners deserve. But the educational philosophy that best describes me is PROGRESSIVISM because according to its proponent, John Dewey, it is learning by doing. Yes, I can easily learn things if I am the one discovered and doing it and I do believe that by applying this principle, we can have an independent learning to our future learners since they will be the one to explore and perform what is asked so that when they grow up, they can easily catch up with the things around them. To simplify it, our future endeavors learn best when pursuing their own interests and satisfying their own needs. One scenario that I can share where progressivism applies is that I was exposed to a small community in Barangay Tablon to do tutorial sessions back in our National Service Training Program (NSTP) and here in Xavier University through LAMDAG, (a tutorial session organized by the Arrupe Educational Center in partnership with the City Social Welfare Development (CSWD). With this, I am training myself on what is the scenario of teaching industry about as early as now. Another scenario that I can share in applying this philosophy is that I used to attend webinars in this quarantine period. If you are planning to work in Department of Education (DepEd) or planning to be a principal, a schools division superintendent or even a regional director, you are expected to attend seminars or webinars which is required by the respective DepEd offices, depending on what level will be (either a national level, a regional level or a division level). With this, I am also training myself that teaching isn’t just basically instruct what I learned in my college years but also to learn new, timely and relevant inputs shared by the speakers which I can used to enhance my teaching skills so that I can give my learners a bright future that they deserve. At the end, it is really an advantage that you’ve finished all levels of your educational attainment so that when you apply for work, you can easily be hired and that is the principle that I would like to impart to my learners because Miss Universe 2013 3 rd runner up Ariella Arida once said that education is the ticket to have a better future. Based on my interpretation, I found out that I have an Eclectic educational philosophy which means I acquire more than one educational philosophy which are Progressivism, Perennialism, Existentialism, Essentialism, Constructivism and Linguistic Philosophy. I can say that the result I’ve got is just since I’ve observed in my experiences that I abide different learning styles to acquire knowledge and skills that is essential, relevant and experiential life-long learnings. You learned best with your experiences because “Experience is the Best Teacher” and this is what I intend for attaining and perceiving knowledge and skills in education. And in addition, I believe that when I apply progressivism to the teaching aspect, I helped my learners to discover and demonstrate things all by their own so that when they reach to higher years, they can easily cope up with the things around them. I want to impart this philosophy in teaching my learners because I don’t want them to grow up by just being dependent what is being spoon-feed by their teachers or colleagues. I want my future learners to be the best version of theirselves and be the globally competitive individuals because of the knowledge and skills that they acquired through independent learning. With that, I believe that I belong to progressivist educators. Progressivism is also known as Pragmatism which means “learning by doing”.
