BAHAY NA BATO - LUNA, LA UNION

(What is Art?)

Art is something that can be appreciated even in its simplest form. Just like the Bahay na Bato that
was built by the stones that were found along the shorelines of Luna. To create an art, it is not
necessary to include expensive materials and such, it only need something that can best
compliment its form.
Art is an entertainment, it provides amusement, fun and pleasure to the people. My definition of art
is more on the positive side, because I believe that art is what makes us feel good, surprise and
meets our expectations – it may be on the part of the person who creates an art or to the people
who sees it. Bahay na Bato was made from the pebbles and stones found along the beaches of Luna,
La Union. Before it became a tourist destination, it was only a rest house constructed along the
seashore, in order for the owners enjoy the serenity and beauty of the place. The uniqueness of this
stone house soon attracted tourists and travelers alike and the owner of the house, the Nobles,
allowed visitations after the structure was declared a tourist site. The place now serves fun-
experience and pleasure to the people who visit it. Sometimes people/artists create art to entertain
not just the people who sees it but also themselves, as the maker of their own masterpieces. There
are billions of arts that shows positivity and good vibes, Bahay na Bato is just one of them. Bahay na
Bato provides enjoyment and amusement to people. Bahay na Bato is definitely an art. Thus, art
defines as a masterpiece that entertains.
We choose The Bahay na Bato in Luna, La Union that will best represents the Ilocano culture
because it showcase the hardworking spirit and dedication to their work. Also, Ilocano is known for
being simple and appreciative in different ways. For me, art is a way on how you express and share
your experiences to others. Also, art is a give and take process because when you showcase your art
to other people, there will be reactions on how you will be maintaining the trademark that they get
from your art and to improved and develop more so that they will be motivated, inspired and
moved by its meaning. Art is a tool for interacting among people it creates a harmonious
relationship between the sender and the receiver. Art is like love when you appreciate a certain
detail or see his hidden beauty you can understand his meaning or worth. It can cause a feeling that
you can't understand and it will be remembered by your mind forever.
Someone said, "If people threw rocks to you, do not throw bread in return. Make use of the rocks
they have thrown unto you to build your own castle." Just like the Bahay na Bato, i will build my
own castle as strong as one of the heritage of La Union which is Bahay na Bato. In addition, art for
me is a fraction of humanities were humanities defined as a human experiences where people
record and process their thoughts, beliefs, and longings sometimes people show their expression
through art, music, literature, and language. I can say that the art of Bahay na Bato in Luna, La union
reflects my personality by motivating other people or any individual to turn into a strong person.
Undeniably, art is meaningful. There are a lot of meanings that we can articulate just by viewing,
hearing and experiencing the different kinds of art. Though, we differ on understanding an art
because of our different perspective in life, still, art is the expression or application of human
creative skill and imagination.
