1. PURPOSE
2. SCOPE
This Bulletin will apply to all Transocean rigs. The actual contents of the agreed scope of
work must be checked to ensure that they provide details consistent with the connector
make and model to be overhauled.
3. EQUIPMENT CRITICALITY
4. RESPONSIBILITIES
The rig manager is responsible to ensure that all sections of the scope of work are
accomplished, whether by a third party or by the rig crew.
Technical Information Bulletins shall be posted in eDocs and distributed to all Transocean
locations.
6. ABBREVIATIONS
7. REFERENCES
8. MAINTENANCE DOCUMENTATION
The manufacturer’s manuals are to be current and available on the rig for review by all
persons who will operate and perform maintenance on this equipment.
9. SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Carry out pre-job planning and risk assessment as per Company HS&E Manual.
Personnel performing this maintenance should be competent and familiar with the
equipment.
♦ Use the provided Overhaul Scope of Work Checklist to determine what actions each
vendor or subcontractor would be responsible for, regardless if the overhaul is
performed offshore or in a shop environment.
♦ Use the Planning Tools (reference Appendix IV) to help determine the action plan and
costs associated with the overhaul, as well as what method of overhaul – shop
overhaul, offshore overhaul, exchange program, etc. – will be most beneficial.
♦ Determine which Service Bulletin upgrades have been completed on the equipment to
date and which will be completed during the overhaul.
♦ Complete an overhaul of the equipment and restore it to full functionality based upon
the Detailed Scope of Work, as listed in section 11.
♦ Provide customer with a full set of databooks on the overhaul and update all vendor
documentation, drawings and manuals.
Take a complete set of digital photographs prior to beginning any work. Clean the
equipment of any oil, mud, or other contaminants. Record serial number on workscope
forms. Strip the Connector to its component parts, degrease and clean all parts ready for
inspection. Verify the hardness of components after all machining, heat treatment, including
stress relieving operations have been completed. Additional photographs should be taken
during each stage of the overhaul for inclusion in the databook.
1. Inspect and dimensionally check all machined surfaces, sealing surfaces, on the
body for corrosion, wear and mechanical damage, ensure that the through bore
and the connector top connection are within allowable wear tolerances.
2. Inspect and dimensionally check the ring gasket inlay on the top connection for
wear or mechanical damage, ensure that the inlay sealing surfaces are within
allowable wear tolerances.
3. Inspect and dimensionally check the ring gasket sealing area inside the body for
wear and mechanical damage, ensure that the inlayed sealing surface is within
allowable wear tolerances.
4. Inspect the threads in the bolt holes on the body for wear, damage and corrosion.
Use a GO / NO GO gauge if available.
1. Inspect the lower body for wear, corrosion or mechanical damage; ensure that all
seal and O ring grooves are within allowable wear tolerances. Inspect the Xylan
coating on the sealing surfaces ensure that it is un-damaged and intact.
2. Inspect the threads in the bolt holes on the top of the body for wear, damage and
corrosion. Use a GO / NO GO gauge if available.
1. Inspect the latch segment for wear, corrosion or mechanical damage; ensure that
the segment dimensions are within allowable wear tolerances.
2. Inspect the latch segment spreaders and the latch segment retaining screws for
wear corrosion or mechanical damage, replace worn or damaged parts as
required.
1. Inspect the spacer ring for wear, corrosion or mechanical damage, check that the
ring is not warped.
1 Visually inspect and MPI all studs, bolts and nuts. Check the threads inside the
nuts for wear or corrosion. Replace worn parts as required.
11.12 Welds
11.13 Assembly
♦ Prior to issuing the Purchase Order, a complete and current list of all Service Bulletins
and upgrades available should be reviewed, and these upgrades be considered as
options for installation during the overhaul period. Regional support groups should be
consulted on all major overhauls.
♦ Customer will provide transport from the rig to the overhaul facility as well as return
transport unless otherwise agreed. All other movement, shipping, and transport costs
associated with overhauling the equipment are to be included in the overhaul quote.
♦ Vendor is required to provide any and all updated drawings, documentation or manuals,
specific and general, relative to the Connectors.
♦ Customer attendance for specific inspections during the overhaul will be governed by
the Quality Plan via the designated contact point (reference Appendix I). Vendor must
telephone the contact 24 hours (minimum) before the inspection to allow time to plan
the visit.
12.1 List of OFE
♦ After re-assembly, final testing will be performed to the normal working pressure
or to the pressure required by Class, whichever is higher. Pressure testing
equipment will have valid calibration certificates.

APPENDIX I
SCOPE OF WORK CHECKLIST
14. SCOPE OF WORK CHECKLIST
This checklist is to be used to determine what parts of the Scope of Work are applicable to
a given vendor and ensure that responsibility for said parts is easily understood. A copy of
the Scope of Work plus a copy of this checklist can be provided to any vendor or
subcontractor for the purposes of quotation, quality control/assurance, or to ensure a clear
understanding of what is expected from the vendor. However, in any case where the OEM
is not the primary responsible party for overhaul-related work, Transocean personnel must
provide vendor with instructions and generally increased involvement from Transocean
personnel.
Regardless of sections checked or unchecked in Appendix I, any vendor using this form
must comply with all other requirements from all sections of the Scope of Work. For
example, all Remarks / Assumptions (Section 12) are still applicable to any vendor.
A single point contact must be designated for each overhaul – both within Transocean and
within the vendor’s organization. This will limit miscommunication and facilitate the effective
and accurate transferal of information between the parties. These people will be assigned
before the purchase order is issued.

APPENDIX II
PARTS LIST
This parts list is exhaustive for all seals, “O” Rings etc, normally changed out during an
overhaul. This list is intended as GUIDANCE only and should be based on recommendations
from the rig crew and the results of inspections by overhaul vendor, OEM representative or third
party inspections.
While in the shop, retrieving parts is not normally difficult, but performing an offshore overhaul
often poses challenges if a part is needed but not readily available. Therefore, rig management
and the local field support department is responsible to determine what parts should be ordered
based on region stock, anticipated deliveries, customs restrictions and possible requirements.
