In order to qualify for winning recognition, an establishment
must have received at least 50 evaluations. For the category Best Kosher Store/Butcher: Simply Kosher
winners, the top establishments were determined by adding
together the percentage of customers who ranked the Best Kosher Store/Butcher
establishment “very good” or “excellent” in the each category. Runner-Up: Kosher Mart
For the overall winners, the very good and excellent
percentages of all the categories were totaled together. Some
baked good establishments were not eligible to receive awards

Summary of Comments:
Overall, it seems that Kosher Mart is still a(n improving) work-in-progress
since its take over of Katz. Customers appreciate the wide selection of
goods in the store and the ease of getting around the store. On the needs
improvement side, people have noticed inconsistent stocking of items.
There is also frustration at the location of items being moved around the
store from one visit to the next. It appears that there is not enough staff to
handle the customer base and many of the staff are not knowledgeable
about the products and policies of the store. Similar to other kosher
markets in the area, people complained about dairy, poultry and deli items
not being fresh and/or expired when purchased. Last, there are concerns
about lack of cleanliness.

Summary of Comments:
While Ben Yehuda offers a range of Italian items, sandwiches
and other foods, the stand-out dishes indicated by consumers
remain the pizza and the calzones. Consumers also
appreciate the fact that the restaurant is open motzei Shabbat.
Unfortunately, customers still report issues with customer
service. A primary complaint is that some of the teen-age staff
do not appear to have sufficient supervision. A related item is
insufficient cleaning of tables and floors. People voice
frustration with the layout of the restaurant, particularly when
waiting in line for pizza. The noise level in the restaurant can
get quite loud as well.
