Always use the installation instructions delivered with the Software that will be installed.
It is recommended to download the latest published version of the software from
MEDNET GSO Library Path: Computed Radiography => CR Digitizer => DX-M => Software

This enclosure is part of the DX-M DICOM digitizer software and provides the
installation instructions.

1 Application Range of DICOM Digitizer Software

The DICOM Digitizer software can be used for the following CR applications:
• General Radiography (GenRad),
• Mammography (Mammo) and
• Full Leg – Full Spine (FLFS)

NOTE:
For more information regarding the features of the latest software refer to
DX-G / DX-M Service Manual, Chapter 3.8 - Software & Releases.

NOTE:
Software is upgradeable from every previous version of NIM_2xxx* software.
*xxx = Version number of the software

2 Prerequisites for Installation

IMPORTANT:
It is recommended to download the latest published version of the software from
MEDNET GSO Library: Computed Radiography => CR Digitizer => DX-M => Software
Always use the installation instructions delivered with the Software that will be installed.

REQUIRED TOOLS:
• Service PC with USB port
• USB Memory Stick with at least 20 MB free disk space (The USB Memory Stick
delivered with the digitizer is recommended. The Stick can also be ordered via
order number*: CM+9 5170 0760 0)
* The last digit in the spare part number indicates the spare part revision at release of this
document. When ordering, the actual revision of the spare part is delivered.

• Software to extract the zip-files (e.g. Winzip)

REQUIRED TIME:
Approximately 15 minutes for the installation via USB Memory Stick

NOTE:
Register this software installation in the local service management system as
modification, e.g. In SMS as “MOD”.

3 Preparing the Installation

NOTE:
The digitizer software can be downloaded from the MEDNET GSO Library and is also
available as part of USB Memory Stick with order number*: CM+9 5170 0760 0
* The last digit in the spare part number indicates the spare part revision at release of
this document. When ordering, the actual revision of the spare part is delivered.

It is recommended to download the latest version of the software from


MEDNET GSO Library.

(1) Download the latest Digitizer Software (File size approximately 12 MB) from
MEDNET GSO Library, Path: Computed Radiography => CR Digitizer =>
DX-M => Software

(2) Extract all files from the downloaded zip file into a folder on the Service PC.
The downloaded zip file contains the software package as zip file named:
<NIM_2XXX.zip>* and this document.
* XXXX = Version number of the software

(3) Extract all files from <NIM_2XXX.zip>* with extraction mode <Extract to
here>. Folder NIM_2XXX* is created automatically.
* XXX = Version number of the software

4 Installation

Following steps are necessary to install the software via USB Memory stick:

4.1 Installing Digitizer Software on the Digitizer via USB Memory Stick

(1) Copy the folder “NIM_2XXX“ and its contents to the USB Memory Stick root
directory.
(2) Navigate to “\NIM_2XXX” on the USB Memory Stick.
* XXX = Version number of the software

(3) Double click on <Prepare_Installation.cmd>.


If the solid state disk of digitizer should be formatted additionally, double click on
<Prepare_Formatting.cmd> instead.
(4) Release the USB Memory Stick from Service PC.
(5) Switch off digitizer.
(6) Open front cover.
(7) Plug the USB Memory Stick into the USB slot of the digitizer.
NOTE:
The USB port of the digitizer does not accept all types of USB sticks. The
USB Memory Stick delivered with the digitizer is recommended. The Stick
can also be ordered via order number*: CM+9 5170 0760 0
* The last digit in the spare part number indicates the spare part revision at release of this
document. When ordering, the actual revision of the spare part is delivered.

(8) Close digitizer.


(9) Switch on digitizer.
(10) Wait until digitizer has booted with the new software.
(11) Remove USB Memory Stick from digitizer.
IMPORTANT:
Do not remove the USB stick as long as it booted and the status
indicator do not continuously lighting up in green.

4.2 Creating a Backup

NOTE
The backup procedure will be executed automatically by the digitizer.
To create a backup manually refer to chapter 3.7 Software Menus, Settings.

5 Verification of successful Installation

If the self-test is completed successfully, the digitizer enters the operator mode and the
status indicator is continuously lighting up in green.

ACTION:
Check the installed software version using the touch panel of the digitizer.

The Standby screen with following buttons


is shown in the local display of the digitizer:

5.1 Checking Software Version via Information Button

The information button displays following information of the digitizer:


• IP Address
• Digitizer Name
• Software version

(1) Click the information button to display


the information screen.
The software version of the digitizer
is displayed.

5.2 Checking Software version via Service Mode Button

The service mode button allows the field service engineer to access the service
software of the digitizer.

the local display of the digitizer.

5.2.1 Device Info (Main Device Info)

The Menu Main Device Info shows the device specific data configured in
production.

(1) Select <Device Info – Main Service Menu > Device Info > Main Device Info
Device Info>.
Device specific data will be displayed.
Type Number: 5170
Subtype Number: 200
Serial Number: 12345
Manufacturer Date: 28 Jan 2010
The Device specific Data Software Version: NIM 2007
are “read-only” and just for Number of IP Cycles: 23456

5.2.2 Modification (Software Installation)

The Menu Software Installation show the installed software of the following
boards on the digitizer:
• PMI Board,
• IP Handling Board and
• Cassette Handling Board

(1) Select <Modification – Service Menu > Modification > Software Installation

Instructions for Software Upload:


1. Switch off the Digitizer.
2. Insert USB Stick with prepared Software.
3. Switch Digitizer on to install Software.
4. Wait until the Digitizer shows the READY screen.
5. Switch Digitizer off and remove USB stick.

(2) Check installed software versions.


For upload Software refer to chapter 3.7 Software Menus, Setting.

(3) Select <Cancel> to go back to the menu.

Result Software Installation of DICOM digitizer software was successful.


NOTE:
If the solid state disk was formatted during installation, the digitizer needs to be
adapted to the hospital network again. Refer to DX-G / DX-M Service Manual,
Chapter 1 - "Controls, Connections and Setup" for more information.
