MY STRENGTHS – REFLECTIVE JOURNAL 2

Upon completion of the Clifton Strengths survey and the group coaching sessions with my success
lecturer I was able to understand various aspects about myself which I can be able to use now and, in
the future, because I now understand myself better. One of the most important aspects that I learned
from these excises is knowing my strengths. Reading this book about “Realising strengths in yourself
and others”, has helped me to never really knew who I was and what my beneficial and unique
strengths were. (Linley, P A 2008)

Refer below are the results of my Clifton Strengths Survey Results

From the Clifton Strengths it has identified my five top strengths which are; Restorative, Learner,
Responsibility, Includer and Brief.

The first strength Restorative, I agree on this because relating back to myself I am very good at
listening to an issue and then I try to figure out options or ways to resolve the issues. Secondly, as a
Learner, I always strive to learn about new things, I ask a lot of questions to clear my doubts or
curiosity, I read and do my own research to understand. In that way it helps me to continue to improve
in my area of profession and having a positive outcome always keeps me motivated. The third strength
is Responsibility, reflecting on myself I am a person who takes ownership of anything that needs to
be attended too and I prioritize my time. Despite being a big procrastinator, I try to help remind myself
with reminders on my email or phone to help me get things done on or before the due dates. Fourth
strength is an Includer, it is true that I can show awareness to those whom I notice are felt left out
and I try to include them. Reflecting back, I was once a shy person growing up, however, given
opportunities by the bank to attend various trainings and exposer to public speaking has really given
me courage and strength to come out of my shell and be a people person. I am an open-minded person
and I love to help people despite their different ethnic groups and I am grateful to have a job that
allows me excise this. Finally, my fifth strength is Brief, I also agree with this as it totally describes the
me well. I put others first before me, I make sure they are assisted and satisfied however, if they are
involved in breaking the law I let them except or face the consequences of their own actions. More
reading and research about strength can be read on the book called “Strengths development in the
workplace”. (Hodges, T D and Asplund, J 2009).

Reflecting on all my strengths it shows how unique I am and how better I can perform in my job or
how better I can be a teammate or team player. Referring to Don Clifton wrote: “There is no other
way to effective empower people than to see each person in terms of his or her strengths.” (Rath,
T. (2007).

When building my talents into my strengths in the workplace it required a lot of practice and hard
work. It also goes to show that knowledge and practise will help me to move from good to outstanding
in my area of talent because there is no limitation to how much a person can do. Gallup has also
helped me to know my areas of weakness, so I know where to concentrate on and where not to and
when I know my area if weakness I can be able to avoid obstacles.

For example, I know that I am not good at Telling duties which is dealing with cash doing deposits and
withdrawals, so I have stressed my concern to the management that, that is my weakness and I am
willing undergo training in this area to better myself. I also stated my area of strength which is the
General Enquires which I have a vest knowledge of our products and service and able to market them.

To conclude Gallup has helped me understand my strengths and how it applies to my personal and
professional life and also it has identified areas of weakness which has helped me to be able to avoid
obstacles and strive to perfect this those areas.
