Powerpoint Presentation
III. Procedure
A. Motivation
Do the ‘Draw your Dream House’ activity.
Ask the students to bring any sheet of paper and a pen, then follow the
instructions.
B. Presentation
Relate the activity to being a detailed and direct person which is a characteristic of
one of the ways of defining terms.
C. Discussion
1. Provide examples of theoretical and operational definition of terms.
2. Let the students differentiate the two based on the given examples.
3. Present ways on how to define terms operationally. Ask the students if the
presented statement is correct or not and let them explain why.
D. Application
Think of how you are going to measure each underlined word in each item. Write
your own operational definition for each.
1. Boys show more affection towards their father than toward their mother.
TD: Affection is a gentle feeling of fondness or liking.
OD: _______________________________________
2. A psychologist wants to know if his new form of psychotherapy has an effect
on depression. Specifically, he wants to know if it will make people less
depressed.
TD: Depression is a feeling of severe despondency and dejection.
OD: ______________________________________
E. Values Integration
If you were a definition, what would you be? Theoretical or operational? Why do
you say so?
F. Evaluation

theoretically.
