Market and Financial Data Analyst

Background
Barker Langham is a leading cultural consultancy, specialising in the visioning, strategic planning and
development of cultural heritage projects. Our head office is in London; our team and projects are based
around the world. Our expertise extends across the cultural sector including museums, exhibitions, visitor
centres and landscapes. We have created business and financial strategies for major projects in the UK and
abroad, which look at a range of incomes including endowments, earned income, ticketed experiences, food
/ beverage, retail, property development, and new macro- financial structures. Current clients include a
range of high-profile Heritage Lottery Fund projects across the UK, and a range of museum and cultural
organisations in Europe, the United States, Russia, Qatar, Oman and the UAE.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced Market and Financial Data Analyst to support Barker Langham's growth
in the Business and Strategic Planning area of our work. This role is ideal for a finance, economics or
statistics-based graduate who is looking to develop a career in data analysis and financial modelling in the
sector. The candidate will have solid and demonstrable knowledge in the the culture, heritage and leisure
sectors, can work across a range of projects, and can also embrace the international nature of Barker
Langham’s work. The successful candidate will have 3-4 years of demonstrable data analysis experience for a
range of clients and projects, ideally within the culture, heritage and leisure sectors. We are also looking for
people who are innovative thinkers, and bring fresh approaches to projects and internal processes. The post
would be based in the UK at either our London or Southwell [Nottinghamshire] office.

Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Supporting the team across all work strands, with particular focus on Business and Strategic Planning
• Delivering quality data and analysis outputs in a clear and consistent way
• Interpreting and presenting complex data sets to management, and creating presentations for clients
with our graphic design team
• Regularly updating a financial benchmarking toolkit across the culture, heritage and leisure sectors
• Undertaking research on wider macro-economic models relevant to the sector – and best practice
in new models for funding and growing cultural projects
• Creating Excel-based financial models for projects, including income and expenditure modelling and
visitor projection modelling
• Validation and quality control checks across Barker Langham's data analysis and financial models
• Managing relevant tasks and briefing Barker Langham's research team
• Exploring business development opportunities around financial research in the sector, such as
publications, an annual survey, etc.
• The candidate will also support the team to create the commercial response and team resource
allocations for tenders.
Person Specification

Experience
• Minimum 3-4 years experience of financial and market data collection and analysis, including raw data
• Experience or demonstrable knowledge of the culture, heritage and leisure sectors
• Solid knowledge of operations and finance around commercial activities in the culture, heritage and
leisure sector
• Demonstrable knowledge of endowment and fundraising strategies, and the wider macro-economic
models relevant to the sector
• Experience of using advanced Excel functions for financial modelling in a range of projects, including
income and expenditure modelling
• Desirable experience of economic impact assessment modelling.

Skills
• Ability to work independently under their own initiative and proactively
• Ability to work towards very tight deadlines
• Ability to plan and manage our researchers through clear briefings
• Demonstrable skills in data analysis and data interpretation
• Ability to derive and analyse complex data from internal databases
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high attention to detail
• Proven advanced Microsoft Excel skills (macros, pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, etc.) essential
• Ability to contribute towards the creation of presentations for clients
• Innovative thinker, bringing fresh approaches to projects and internal processes.

Qualifications
• BA/BSc degree or equivalent, ideally finance, economics or statistics-based
• Excel proficiency certificate desirable
