The 2007 Philadelphia Area Kosher Community
Survey (KCS) received an excellent reception from the
community with a response rate of close to 300
participants – an impressive improvement over last
year’s inaugural survey! The KCS feedback process is
clearly taking hold in Philadelphia.
Despite good participation, there were not enough
written comments to create full summaries for most of
the establishments. As KCS is all about improvement,
we challenge kosher consumers in Philadelphia to
write more written comments for next year’s survey!
In any event, for those establishments that did well,
please congratulate them. For those establishments
that need improvement, let them know that we look
forward to seeing scores go up next year!

Summary of Comments:
ACME (Narbeth) received a significant number of written
comments, which tended to provide areas of requested
improvement. On the positive side, customers indicated that
they enjoyed the sushi. In addition, consumers appreciated
that the bakery was pas yisrael and pareve. On the negative
side, the store is seen as having slow service, limited selection
of kosher products, and not being as well stocked with general
groceries as other ACME stores (due to its smaller size).

focused on the owners having a reputation as nice people, the
store offering good service, and the quality of the fish being
very good.
There were not a sufficient number of written comments to
create a full summary. The comments that were provided
consisted of a mix of general positive statements about the
store and some negative specific comments. On the positive
side, consumers appreciated the store’s full kosher department
and the selection it offered. On the negative side, store patrons
found that the prepared foods were not so appetizing. Kosher
consumers also expressed a suggestion that the store
consider changing its bakery to pareve/pas yisroael.

mentioned that they travel from Pennsylvania to shop at this
specific store.

Comments on the food indicated that the food quality as

Mama’s Vegetarian Restaurant’s falafel gets rave reviews from
customers – a number of people stated that this establishment
has the “best falafel in the country”. Patrons appreciate the
availability of quality kosher food in the downtown area at a
reasonable price. On the negative side, Mama’s has a limited
menu and the physical space is small, crowded, and noisy.
Many people recommend getting take-out.

the establishment is able to provide consistently good pizza.
Space at the restaurant is limited, so customers recommend
ordering for take-out or delivery.

frustration with customers, and a number of patrons requested
that Yi-Tzi Peking consider expanded hours.
