1.0Introduction

The earthwork may commence after site clearing and removal of unsuitable material. The
earthwork involves transport the soil from approved borrow pits to the site and
compacted layer to layer till formation level.

2.0Machineries

3.0 Excavation Works

a) The excavation works for retaining wall base shall start according to the progress of
piling works.
b) The existing ground level shall be excavated to the piles cut-off level as per
construction drawings. The excavated soil material shall be placed nearby which will
not disturb the heavy vehicle movements.
c) Then the cut-off excess R.C piles shall be removed from site.

4.0 Construct R.C Base

a) The level of excavated base shall be checked and then proceed with laying lean
concrete
b) After marking of survey setting out of centre line and alignment of retaining wall on
lean concrete, the rebar and starter bar for wall are installed and ties firmly by wires
as according to the construction drawings.

 c) The concrete cover which made from cement block or spacer shall tie together with
the rebar.
d) The rebar size, spacing and base dimension shall be inspected by Resident Engineer
prior to concreting works. The construction joints between base and wall shall be
constructed at 6m c/c as follows:

5.0 Construct R.C Wall

a) The high of retaining wall is 1.1m, 1.5m and 2.0m as according to the design
locations.
b) The rebar shall be tied firmly to the starter bar of the base.
c) Prior to install formwork, the reinforcement works shall be checked by Resident
Engineer.
d) The falsework to the formwork shall be erected to give sufficient support and bracing.
Necessary wedges, jacks or camber strips shall be provide to facilitate the vertical
adjustments.
e) The formwork and falseworks removal shall follow the JKR Specification as follows:

6.0 Concrete Curing

a) For exposed structures, immediately after concreting and vibration, it shall be

protected from the sun and rain by using canvas.
b) After the initial set of the concrete, it shall be kept continuously damp until
thoroughly cured. In order to keep the concrete continuously damped, all exposed
surfaces shall have water impounded on them for the full period of curing which shall
not less than 7 days.

7.0 Backfilling Work

a) The previous excavated soil shall be used to backfill the R.C base after concreting of
R.C wall.
