Lesson Plan in Short Story
Title: “The Princess and the Pea”
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60 minute lesson the pupil should be able to:

The teacher will read aloud the story to the pupils. Throughout the reading, the
teacher will stop and ask questions such as:

Once the story is finished, the teacher will introduce the concept of the moral or the
lesson of the story by asking students the following question:
c. Motivation
The teacher asks the students the following questions and writes the student’s answer
on the board:
What are the some other lessons or morals that you know?
What lessons or morals do you have in your home?
Have you read other stories with morals or lessons? What were they?
d. Application
The students are asked to draw a picture from the story which shows the main
character learning the lesson or moral. Underneath the story, students must write
down what is the moral or lesson that is being demonstrate in the story.
IV. EVALUATION
The teacher will circulate in the classroom to help with any questions regarding ideas,
words, sentence structure and spelling in the story.
V. HOMEWORK
The students are asked to bring their favorite book that has a moral lesson in it and
share it in the rest of the class.

a. Introduction
Tell the pupils that they will be learning strategies to help them appreciate poetry and
read poetry more effectively.
b. Presentation
Discuss the following strategies and their importance with the pupils:
Preview the poem and read it aloud a few times – Tell them that reading a poem
aloud a few times can help them get an overall feel for the language, rhyme, and
rhythm of the poem.
Visualize the images, clarify words and phrases – Ask the pupils what does the
quotation “there are pictures in poems and poems in pictures” mean. Visualizing the
author paints picture in their head.
Evaluate the poem’s theme and allow their understanding to grow – Explain to
the pupils about reading between the lines. In order to pay attention to the details and
remind them to think about what the poet is trying to help them understand or does it
connect to anything in their lives?
c. Motivation
Read the poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”. Apply the strategies
when reading and discussing the poem. Discuss the number of lines and stanza, listen
for rhyme and rhythm.
d. Exercise
Discuss the unfamiliar words in the poem, such as:
harness
sweep
downy
Let the pupils know the meaning of each word to make it easier to understand the
message of the author. Let them look it in their dictionaries.
e. Application
Tell them to choose three descriptive statements from the poem and write each
statement in their paper. Encourage students to draw illustrations if necessary.
IV. EVALUATION
Let’s pupils apply the reading strategies to help them analyze and understand the
poem and relate the convey message of the poem in the real life.
V. HOMEWORK
The pupils are asked to make their own free verse poem.
