The crankcase of the M177 is made of sand-cast aluminum
and features a closed deck design. Thanks to the optimized
LDS coating (NANOSLIDE®), the cylinder barrels of the AMG
V8 engine are twice as hard as conventional cast iron cylin-
der barrels – for maximum service life. It is highly rigid due to
multiple cross struts and longitudinal struts. The crankshaft
bearing caps are made of cast iron with nodular graphite
(GGG 60).
