Explain three (3) reasons ethics and integrity will be valuable in your future career

choice in law enforcement.

Ethics and integrity refer to a practical design for doing what is right while dealing with

people. However, in our society today, ethical integrity has become a modern way of life. When

a person has a strong moral character, they get termed as a person of integrity, plus living an

honest lifestyle is termed as the essential virtue that a person can possess. Ethics are behaviors

and values that get considered bad or good. The use of ethics in law enforcement would be of

great aid during analyzing what is right or wrong (Setyadi, 2016).

Therefore, ethics are essential which choosing the law enforcement career due to some

reasons. One is that ethics and integrity offer tremendous awareness of moral and open issues

that are important to my job. However, the use of ethical values ensures proper application of

analyzation and critical thinking skills. In short, it will allow the implementation of reasonable

decision making in our day to day lives.

Ethics will also be important in understanding the department of criminal justice in law

enforcement career plus creation knowhow on the rule of law. The understanding would aid in

developing work authority in which I would work hard in delivering proper achievement of goals

in the law enforcement career. The criminal justice system is an essential public service system,
and the public interacts with it on daily lives. Ethics are of great use in the study of questioning

since they aid in proving a greater understanding of this philosophy. Ethics also aids in helping

teach the public servants of the system of criminal justice.

Ethics and integrity will enable the learner in law enforcement career to live by their

expectation of department. It will help in upholding the rule of law. Moreover, since law

enforcement gets considered as a very respected profession, then ethics would perform an

essential part in policing.

Determine at least two (2) aspects in which ethics, morality, and law differ in

regards to affecting the decisions of your local law enforcement officers.

The two characteristics are discriminating and stereotyping. Broadly, it is unethical to

discriminate or even stereotype against another person. The law enforcement officers in

Charleston, South Carolina says that it is the best way to catch small-time criminals. The police

department is fond of discriminating and stereotyping citizens. Principally, young black

Americans who stand at corners are stereotyped as drug users and drug dealers. However, they

get mostly searched by the police officers to confirm that they have no drugs in their pockets and

body. Nonetheless, the City of Charleston Police Department responds differently to domestic

violence calls.

Recommend at least two (2) ways law enforcement officers should use ethics,

morality, and a code of conduct in both their professional and personal lives.

From research by Setyadi (2016), as an officer, the most critical obligation is to assist the

society at large, protect property and lives, to defend the guiltless from trickery, protecting the

frail from intimidation or subjugation and respect the rights of equality, justice and liberty of
citizens. Therefore, law enforcement officers must maintain the ethics in both their individual

and proficient lives on or off the clock.

First, an officer should never harass a citizen whom they serve by any chance. They

should not permit personal feelings or beliefs to get their way under any circumstance in the line

of work. Another thing officers must consider is that they must respect the badge of office as a

community faith sign plus admit it as a communal trust. It means that they should respect their

positions and never engage in corruption acts of bribery plus never to condone officers engaging

in those acts.

Using the Law enforcement code of conduct for the state of your choosing, identify

and discuss the two (2) most important aspects of the system as they relate to law

enforcement activities in your country.

In Charleston, South Carolina they have a law enforcement body termed as The

Charleston Police Department whose mission is to serve all citizens within their jurisdiction with

compassion, fairness and respect. They get committed to protect the lives and preserve peace

according to the State of South Carolina constitution. However, the department adopts partnering

with the community with the aim of crime prevention. The role of the department is to keep law

and order exceptionally plus recognizing the limitations of police officers by the judicial system

on the right of every individual.

One most essential code of conduct that the department offers is ensuring peace in the

state and the society compliance with the law. They must ensure there is peace in the country.

The society has put the officers in place to prevent crime, and when it fails, they apprehend the

violators of the law. Therefore, the department is responsible for interrelating with the society to
create a general understanding to ensure that there is citizens support in crime prevention

(Aleynikov, 2019).

Another code of ethics is accountability, leadership and governance. A vast range of

training must get offered to enable officers and other custody staffs to deal with the vulnerable

people needs assertively. Relevant information must be identified for those detained in the

department. Police must be able to show that, for example, children and corner boys in South

Carolina were inappropriately arrested and imprisoned. Therefore, useful quality data must get

gathered before harassing citizens, which might as well ensure peace.
