SCOPE OF DELIVERY:
The software ZIP file downloaded from the Agfa HealthCare Library contains:
 Software ≥ 2.2.0_C1
 Java Virtual machine "jre_1_5_0_03-windows-i586-p.exe".
Required in exceptional cases only.
 Installation Instructions as PDF file (this document)

REQUIRED TOOLS:
 Service PC with CF card reader (CF = Compact Flash)
 Crossed network cable (EB+72010270 or commercially available) or
 For recent PC models which autodetect the type of network connection:
Standard network cable (commercially available)

NOTE:
A CF card, which may be required for software installation, is part of the printer
delivery, and usually stored in the upper tray of the printer.
If this CF card is lost, use a CF card from spare parts stock, spare part number*:
CM+3433561
As an alternative, use a CF card with following specifications:
 Capacity max. 4 GB
 Formatted: FAT (not FAT32, not NTFS)
If the CF card capacity is > 4 GB, it is possible to format it via printer command line:
format a: /makepart=2047,-1 /all /do

* The last digit in the spare part number indicates the spare part revision at release of
this document. When ordering, the actual revision of the spare part is delivered.

REQUIRED TIME:
Approximately 1 hour

NOTE:
The software installation can be performed at any DRYSTAR 5302 / DRYSTAR AXYS.
It is independent on the software or hardware status.

1 Introduction

Scope of this Document:


This document describes all required actions for Software installation of the latest
software for DRYSTAR 5302 and DRYSTAR AXYS.

The software installation procedure is identical for both printers and split up in following
steps:

NOTE:
 This document describes the software installation of software ≥ 2.2.0_C1 via
"Emergency software installation" procedure.
Installation via local keypad or browser is only supported when upgrading from
software ≥ 2.0.0_C2. A short instruction for software installation via local keypad /
browser is available in the appendix, section 5.5.
It is recommended to perform the "Emergency software installation" procedure
even if starting the upgrade from software ≥ 2.0.0_C2.
 For a list of new features and solved bugs of the software refer to service
documentation chapter 3.8, Software Releases, Patches.

2 Preparation

The preparation is split up in following main tasks:

*Step is not performed when installing the software on an empty hard disk.

2.1 Check of currently installed Software Release and IP Address

(1) In the key-operator menu select 1 Show Settings – 1 General.


(2) Scroll donw to SW Version and check the currently installed software release
to be sure it is lower than the software to be installed.
(3) In the key-operator menu select 1 Show Settings – 3 Network
(DICOM).
(4) Write down the printer IP address.

NOTE:
Purpose of writing down the printer IP address:
If the printer IP address after the software upgrade is still the same like before, this is
the proof that the configuration was preserved during software upgrade.

2.2 Printing Reference Images from the Modalities

NOTE:
This step is an optional step. This allows comparing the clinical image quality before
and after software upgrade. The image quality should stay the same.

(1) Recommendation: Print one clinical image from each modality.


(2) Mark the image with a waterproof pen as image before software installation.

2.3 Disconnecting the Network Cable

(1) Check that the printer queue is empty.


(2) Remove the network cable, to ensure, that nobody sends print-jobs to the printer
during the software upgrade procedure.

2.4 Saving the Printer Configuration

Proceeding to save the printer configuration on CF card:


(1) In the Key-Operator Menu on the local keypad select 4 Save configuration
- 1 General and follow the further instructions on the display.

Alternative proceeding: Save configuration to the service PC via network connection:

(1) Connect a network cable between service PC and printer. See NOTE below.

NOTE:
Use a "crossed" network cable for point-to-point connection between printer and
service PC. Recent service PCs also auto-detect the type of connection and allow
direct connection from PC to printer via "normal" network cable.
See also sections 5.1 and 5.2.

(2) Adapt the service PC IP address to the IP address of the printer, if required.
For details refer to section 5.2.
(3) Start the browser.
(4) Enter the printer IP address in the address window.
(5) Select menu Key-operator tools.
(6) Select menu 4. Save configuration.
(7) Select menu 1. General.
(8) Select menu 2. To remote computer.
(9) Follow the further instructions on the screen.
(10) Leave the Key-operator tools when finished.

2.5 Unzipping the Software

(1) In the windows explorer double-


click on the software ZIP file
downloaded from the Agfa
HealthCare Library.
(2) Unzip it to a directory \temp:
Be sure to have "Use folder
names" activated. See Figure 1.

2.6 Copying the Software to CF Card

NOTE:
This step is not required if you intend to perform the software upgrade via batch file
"Remote_emergency_install.bat".

(1) Insert the backup CF card which is stored in the printer input tray in the service
PC CF card reader.
(2) Copy the printer backups (BAC_<PRINTER>_XXX.zip) that are on the CF card
to a directory \backup on the CF card.
(3) Delete all other files that might be on the CF card.
(4) Copy the complete content of directory "SW_XXXXX*_DS_Axys_5302" (from
the unzipped software file downloaded from the Agfa HealthCare Library) to the
root of the CF card.
*XXXXX represents the software version.

IMPORTANT:
No other files form previous software
installations may be on the CF card.
Check, that the directory structure of the CF
card looks as shown in Figure 2. This is an
example for software 2.2.0_C1.

3 Software Installation

IMPORTANT:
 Software installation in general can be done via CF card or batch file.
 When replacing a Devil Module running on SW ≤ 2.0.0_C3 by Devius module
(incl. SATA hard disk) the only way to install software is via CF card.
 Recommendation: Perform the software installation with CF card via
emergency installation procedure (see #1 in table below).

3.1 Software Upgrade via CF Card

Proceeding:

(1) Prepare the CF card. See sections 2.5 and 2.6.


(2) Switch off the printer.
(3) Insert the CF card in the printer CF card reader.
(4) Follow the further instructions as shown in Figure 3 next page.

NOTE:
As shown in Figure 3, preserve the configuration during software installation. In this
case following steps are executed internally:
 A backup of the printer configuration data is created and copied to RAM.
 The software is copied from external CF card to hard disk and inflated.
 The boards are programmed.
 The backup is restored from RAM.
When you choose during Emergency SW Installation not to "preserve the
configuration", these data are erased. The printer in this case is in the same state like
it has been shipped from factory (e.g. default IP address 169.254.10.10).

3.2 Software Installation via Remote_Emergency_install.bat File

Software Installation via remote_emergency_install.bat file is an alternative way of


software installation, e.g. if no CF card is available.

(1) Connect a network cable between service PC and printer. See NOTE below.

NOTE:
Use a "crossed" network cable for point-to-point connection between printer and
service PC. Recent service PCs also auto-detect the type of connection and allow
direct connection from PC to printer via "normal" network cable.
See also sections 5.1 and 5.2.

(2) Look-up the printer IP address via key-operator menu


1 Show settings – 4 Network (DICOM).
(3) Adapt the service PC IP address to the IP address of the printer, if required.
For details refer to section 5.2.
(4) In the Windows explorer double-click the file
SW_XXXXX*_DS_Axys_5302\remote\Remote_Emergency_install.bat.
(5) In the window that opens (refer to Figure 4 on page 13) enter the IP address of
the printer and select install. Keep selection "Format disk" (Default setting).

See section 5.3 if the screen shown in Figure 4 is not displayed.

Refer to section 5.4, “Troubleshooting a failed Software Installation via


Remote_Emergency_install.bat File”, if printer is 10 minutes after the last reboot
still hanging with message 'Wait selftest proceeding’ or starts up with message
‘ERROR System Failure’.

NOTE:
During Software upgrade via batch file following steps are executed internally:
 A backup of the printer specific data is created and copied to RAM.
 The software is sent from the PC to the printer via FTP and inflated.
 The boards are programmed.
 The backup is restored from RAM.

4 Finalization of the Upgrade

The finalization of the upgrade is split up in following main tasks:

2 Print a STI2 test image and medical test image from the service 4.2
menu and a (technical) test image from each modality to verify
successful software upgrade.
3 Save printer configuration. 4.3

4.1 Checking the installed Software Release and AE-Title

(1) In the key-operator menu select 1 Show Settings – 1 General.


(2) Scroll down until the 'SW release' is displayed. It has to show the new installed
software version.
(3) In the key-operator menu select 1 Show Settings – 3 Network
(DICOM).
(4) Compare the printer IP address with the IP address before software upgrade:
If it is the same this is a proof that the configuration was preserved during
software upgrade.

4.2 Print-out of Test Images to verify successful Software Upgrade

(1) Connect the service PC to the printer via network. Instructions see section 5.2.
(2) Connect to the printer service web pages. Instructions see section 5.1.
(3) In the browser pages select menu Service Engineer Tools - Enter
Service Command Session - 3 Print Image - 1 Test image -
Medical_image.ZIP.
(4) Select '1' for number of copies.
The medical_image test image will be printed.
(5) From the same menu print a test film "STI2".
(6) Close the service web pages.
(7) Disconnect the network cable between service PC and printer.
(8) Connect the network cable to the printer.

(9) If possible, print a technical and medical image from each modality.
(10) At the light box compare the images printed from the modality with the images
printed before software upgrade.
(11) At the light box check the images for artifacts: In case image artifacts are visible
in the images, troubleshoot as described in the Troubleshooting Guide
(DRYSTAR AXYS: DD+DIS033.07E, DRYSTAR 5302: DD+DIS154.08E).

NOTE:
For external partners accessing the “Troubleshooting Guide” may be restricted.
In such a case please contact your local Agfa representative.

4.3 Saving the Printer Configuration

(1) In the Key-Operator Menu on the local keypad select menu 4 Save
configuration - 1 General and follow the further instructions on the
display.

5.1 Connection to the Printer Service Web Pages

(1) Connect the Service PC to the printer


via network cable*. Service PC
(2) Start the browser
(Internet Explorer  6 or Firefox  3).

*Recent service PCs auto-detect the type of connection and allow direct connection from PC to printer via
"normal" network cable. If after IP address adaptation of the service PC the printer homepage is not
displayed, use a crossed network UTP cable.

5.2 Adaptation of the PC IP Address

To connect the printer and the Service PC via network, usually the IP address of the
Service PC has to be adapted.

Proceeding:
(1) Look up the printer IP address and subnet mask in the printer key operator menu
1 Show settings - 3 Network (DICOM).
(2) Define an IP address for the Service PC by adding or subtracting "1" to the last
digit of the IP address.
Example: Printer IP address = 192.168.2.4
Service PC address = 192.168.2.3 or 192.168.2.5
(3) Enter IP address and subnet mask. See:

5.3 Troubleshooting Problems when executing File


"remote_emergency_install.bat"

Executing the Remote_Emergency_install.bat file requires the Java Virtual Machine


from Sun. If this is not installed, the user interface for the software upload is not
displayed.
Proceeding:
(1) From unzipped software file downloaded from The Agfa HealthCare Library
select directory: \Java
(2) Double-click on file jre_1_5_0_03-windows-i586-p.exe to install the Sun
Java VM.
(3) Follow the further instructions.
(4) When installation is finished, reboot the service PC.
(5) Double-click again on file: Remote_Emergency_install.bat

5.4 Troubleshooting a failed Software Installation via


Remote_Emergency_install.bat File

In case the software upgrade via Remote_Emergency_install.bat file was not


successful, e.g. printer is 10 minutes after the last reboot still hanging with message
'Wait selftest proceeding’ or starts up with message ‘ERROR System Failure’ proceed
as follows:
(1) Connect the service PC to the printer via RS232 cable and open a terminal
session: Check the current status of the printer.
(2) In case there is an evidence of a failed software installation, restart the batch file
and retry the software installation with the batch file.

NOTE:
A logfile of the software installation named 'swins.log' is created in the same directory
where the 'remote_emergency_install.bat' file is executed.
In case it is executed from a write protected medium (e.g. CD ROM), the 'swins.log'
file is not created.
