B. Concepts:
External parts of a volcano
C. Materials:
Miniture of volcani model
Visual Aid / Chart
F. Values Integration: Being aware of the active volcanoes we have in our country
1. Motivation:
Show them different pictures of volcanoes and ask them of how are they going
to describe volcanoes according to what they have seen? ( self expression )
2. Review:
Share your ideas of what is volcano and how does it form.( free discussion )

From the pictures, learners will determine the external parts of a volcano and explain the types
of volcanoes according to the shape of their cone.
Elaborate:
1. What are the 3 types of volcanoes according to the shape of their cone?
2. What are the external parts of a volcano?
Explain:
1. The three general volcanic types according to shape of their cone are shield volcanoes,
cinder cones, and composite cones.
2. A volcano has a summit, slope and base.
Application:
How do you differentiate a crater from a caldera?
Evaluation:
In your own words, describe the following:
Shield volcano
Cinder cone
Composite cone

What are the primary materials ejected from a volcano during eruption?
Explore:
Explain:
1. Volcanoes erupt differently. They are generally classified as wet or dry depending on the
magma's water content.
2. Volcanoes are described according to the style of eruption.
Application:
What type of magma do you think the Mayon Volcano ejects? What type of eruption is taking
place?
Evaluation:
In your own words, describe the following:
1. Shield volcano
2. Cinder cone
3. Composite cone

Elaborate:
Active volcanoes are those that have erupted recently or regularly erupt, and inactive
volcanoes are those that have not erupted for a long time. The exact time distinction between
active and inactive volcanoes differs between experts.

Explain:
Currently active volcanoes are volcanoes that are erupting presently, and there are
almost always some erupting throughout the world. Active volcanoes are expected to erupt in
the near future on a relatively regular schedule. Some people consider volcanoes active if they
have erupted in the past 100 years, but others do not classify a volcano as inactive or dormant
until hundreds or thousands of years have passed.Dormant and inactive are often used
interchangeably, but they have subtle differences. Dormant volcanoes are expected, and have
the ability, to erupt in the future. They may have a long cycle between eruptions during which
they are dormant. Inactive volcanoes are usually not expected to erupt in the future and have
not erupted in recent history.Dormant and inactive volcanoes can become extinct after many
years. This happens when a volcano moves away from its magma source or its source
becomes empty. The shifting of tectonic plates can move volcanoes away from the source,
which results in extinct volcanoes that have no chance of erupting.
* Continuation of Group Presentation, this time with the name of active and inactive volcano
in the
Philippines…
Application:
What type of magma do you think the Mayon Volcano ejects? What type of eruption is
taking place?
Evaluation:
In your own words, answer guide question # 1 to 5 from the activity pp.5 to 9.
