Sub: Win 2017-2018 – Course Registration Process - reg
As informed earlier, the Winter Semester 2017-2018 will commence on 29th November 2017
(Wednesday). The following is the outline involved in the registration process.
Course wish list: The link for the wish list will be made available on 25th September 2017 (Monday).
The link will be available till 27rd September 2017 (Wednesday). It is compulsory for all students to
give the list of courses they wish to take during Winter Semester 2017-2018. The minimal and maximal
number of credits that need to be listed is 24 and 32, respectively. Students who fail to give the list
(atleast equivalent to minimal credit) will not be permitted to register for the courses during
Phase-I. In order to facilitate the process, the curriculum will be made available in the student login.
Phase-I registration: The Phase-I registration is scheduled on 28th October 2017 (Saturday). During
Phase-I registration, students will be permitted to register for University Core (UC) and Programme
Core (PC) courses only. Registration under regular as well as re-registration categories is permitted.
The minimal credit requirement (16 credits) will not be imposed during Phase-I registration. However,
the maximal credit limitation (27 credits) will be imposed. Re-registration is also permitted during the
Phase-I registration. Student who wish to register for courses under ‘Honour’ or ‘Minor’ credential will
be permitted to register for courses.
Phase-II registration: The Phase-II registration is scheduled on 4th November 2017 (Saturday). During
Phase-II registration, students will be permitted to register for University Elective (UE) and Programme
Elective (PE) in addition to University Core (UC) and Programme Core (PC) courses. Registration under
regular as well re-registration categories is permitted. Both minimal and maximal credit requirement
will be imposed during the Phase-II registration. Re-registration and ‘course substitution’ is permitted
during Phase-II registration. Student who wish to register for courses under ‘Honour’ or ‘Minor’
credential will be permitted to register for courses.
ADD/DROP: The option to ‘ADD’ or ‘DROP’ course(s) will be made available during the first three
instructional days of the Winter Semester 2017-2018 (29th November 2017 to 1st December 2017).
Students will not be permitted to drop courses if the total number of credits registered falls below 16.
Registration for course under ‘Grade improvement’, ‘Additional’ and ‘Audit’ is permitted only during
ADD/DROP.
Extended ADD/DROP: An additional ‘ADD’ or ‘DROP’ will be made available after the declaration of
the Fall Semester 2017-2018 results. Registration for courses only under ‘re-registration’ category will
be permitted. Students who wish to avail this facility need to contact their School Dean after the
declaration of the result.
Programme migration: First year students (2017 batch) who wish to apply for programme migration
should register for two courses related to the programme they wish to migrate.
Additional information:
[1] Students under ‘CAL’ (2015 batch onwards) and non-CAL students who had registered for the CAL
courses in the previous semesters can register only for the course component(s) which they failed to
clear (Y grade).
[2] Students with more courses categorized as ‘yet to complete’ are advised to register for the courses
equivalent to minimal credit requirement during Winter Semester 2017-2018. Additionally, there is
no compulsion for any student to re-register for the ‘yet to complete’ courses during Winter Semester
2017-2018 only. The student has the freedom to register for these courses in subsequent semesters.
[3] In case of embedded lab / project courses, the student has the choice to register for the
laboratory/project under the faculty who will be handling the theory course or under the other faculty
scheduled in the same slot and venue.
[4] Classes with low strength will be indicated as ‘Subject to Offering’. Registration will be confirmed
only if the class strength exceeds the threshold limit. For re-registered courses, the receipt need to
be generated during registration and course fee payment need to be effected on or before 18th
November 2017. Names of course fee defaulters will be removed on 25th November 2017. Courses
with the tag ‘Courses not offered’ will also be removed on 25th November 2017.
[5] For students who have not registered any course beyond the Add/Drop period, the Winter 2017-
2018 Semester will be considered as 'Discontinuation of Programme' and their studentship is liable to
be cancelled.
[6] In case the scheduled slots are full, students are permitted to wait-list two courses during Phase-I
and Phase-II registrations. However, the total number of credits registered plus wait-listed courses
cannot exceed 27. Depending on the vacancy, the registration of the wait-listed candidates will be
confirmed before ADD/DROP period. No wait-listing is permitted during ‘ADD/DROP’.
[7] The last date for course fee payment for re-registered courses that are confirmed by moving the
waiting list and also for courses registered during the ADD/DROP period will be 1st December 2017.
Names of fee defaulters will be removed on 4th December 2017.
