Questionnaire on Ship-Shore ESD links, May 2003

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETION

This Questionnaire comes in four parts.

• Part 1 – List of Vessel Operators’ Questions

• Part 2 – List of Terminal Operators’ Questions
• Part 3 – Vessel Pro Forma
• Part 4 – Terminal Pro Forma

Part 1 and part 2 give the full list of questions. There are 16 questions for vessel
operators and 14 questions for terminal operators. Parts 3 and 4 are simply blank pro
forma answer sheets to help you complete the questionnaire.

Part 1 questions are to be completed by SIGTTO member companies operating

liquefied gas tankers, LPG and/or LNG.

Part 2 questions are to be completed by SIGTTO member companies operating

liquefied gas terminals LPG and/or LNG.

There are three parts to each question set.

• Connector specific questions (VC1 – VC10; TC1 – TC10)

• General questions for each ship or berth (VG11 – VG16; TG11 – TG13)
• Overview question for member companies. (VM17; TM14)

Connector specific questions are to be completed for each connector type on each
vessel or berth.
General questions are to be completed for each vessel or berth.
The overview question is to be completed by the operating company (SIGTTO
member).

If you are in any doubt as to how to complete this form please contact the secretariat
as follows :-

1.0 Vessel Operators’ Questions
The following questions are intended for companies operating gas tankers

For Each Vessel

For each type of connector available, please give the following details:
Design Questions
VC1 Type (electric/fibre optic/radio/pneumatic)
VC2 Fixed or pendent extension
VC3 Manufacturer
VC4 Model Number
VC5 Male/Female
VC6 Number of this type at each location. (Port/Starboard etc.)
VC7 Where applicable, what was the original pin configuration in the connector, Please
specify number of pins and uses for each pin.
Experience Questions - On a scale of 1-10 where 1 = poor and 10 = excellent
VC8 How would you rate the operational reliability of this type of connector? Please give
reasons.
VC9 How would you rate the robustness of this type of connector? Please give reasons.
VC10 How would you rate the availability of spare connectors and parts for this type of
connector? Please give examples where possible.

For each vessel, please comment on the following:

Ship/Shore Links – General Questions
VG11 Roughly how often is a ship/shore ESD link used at the terminals which your vessel
calls at. (As a percentage where 100% = Always, and 0% = Never.) Is this due to
terminal requests, incompatibility of equipment or vessel reasons.
VG12 In the experience of the vessel’s personnel generally, roughly how often is a ship/shore
ESD link used at terminals. (As a percentage where 100% = Always, and 0% = Never.)
What reasons underlie these decisions. Please give specific examples where possible.
VG13 Do you believe this type of connector would be more reliable and robust if the pin
configuration did not have to be periodically changed to meet the ESD configuration of
different terminals?
VG14 Where applicable, how often are you required to change pin configurations within
connectors. (instances per year)
VG15 Very roughly how long is your vessel delayed, (hours per year) due to ESD link
connection incompatibility.
VG16 Please advise of any other relevant experiences or factors which you have encountered,
which may assist us in evaluating the global situation in respect of this issue. In
particular please highlight any safety concerns which you may have.

type of connector? Please give examples where possible.

For each berth/jetty, please comment on the following:

Ship/Shore Links – General Questions

berth. (As a percentage where 100% = Always, and 0% = Never.) Is this due
to terminal requirements, incompatibility of equipment or vessel reasons?
