How To Use This Ebook
These pages contain picture diagrams of what can be
represented as a 16 pad drum machine in a 4x4 grid format.
On each diagram, there is a scale that can be used for your
own creativity. This ebook contains 12 different scales in all
12 keys for unlimited ideas. Each diagram contains 3
elements to show you how to play each scale.

1. Black Pad- represents a note that is actually part of the

scale and can be played
2. Yellow Pad- represents the root note or main key that your
song or sample is in and can be played
3. Gray Pad- represents a note that is not part of the scale
and should not be played unless u really want to

If you wanted to create a melody or bass line using a blues

scale you could play any black pad with the option of playing
the yellow pad. Keep in mind that the yellow pads would
represent the key of the song or sample because that is the
root note.

Before you begin...
Enable your drum machine to play notes chromatically or put in
keyboard mode. Refer to your manual if you don’t know how.
Be aware that at least 4 diagrams of each scale will have 2
yellow pads. The reason is because they are octaves. Each pad
on the bottom row is the same note as the top row only an
octave apart. To better illustrate this check out the figure
below.

C
If the yellow pad on the bottom row happens
to be the note C, then the yellow pad on the
top row is also C. This is similar to how piano
keys repeat after every 12 keys.

Unlike the Essential HipHop Chords Ebook, this ebook does

NOT display key names such as C, Eb, F, ect. This is on purpose
because this system is designed to where the placement of a
key doesn’t matter. In other words, pad 1 does NOT have to
be the note C. It could be G if you wanted it to or any other
note and the system still works! Every key is represented no
matter what pad its on. Use any combination with the scales to
create your own melody or bass line. That’s it and have fun!
