Philippines on July 23, 2020, wherein the speaker was Anthony Elum and
Moderator was Bobby Claudio. The seminar covers topic related to
Online Education Strategies including its advantages, different approach
on online education and also strategy on how to secure personal
information online. Different data privacy acts are also mention in the
seminar. This seminar brought awareness to the users of internet
specially for those students. Addition to awareness, software bugs and
programs weakness on android, acrobat reader, windows 2012 and even
Chrome is being discussed. On the latter part, the speaker discussed
vulnerability of internet including ways on how to prevent it from
happening.

As said by the speaker, due to the current situation. The way of teaching
shift from regular into online classes and commonly named as distance
learning, modular learning,virtual learning campus etc. With different
approach regarding online teaching strategy increase of awareness is
needed. For online education, storage of the data are being kept into a
cloud / site wherein the professor has the authority to modify
information while the students simply input data of their assignments,
reaction papers, quiz etc. This systems shows vulnerability of the
personal information students are sharing through internet.

Transitioning to online education requires specific platform and the

commonly used application was facebook. From creating an account,
users are allowing the system to have their personal information. As per
facebook terms and condition, 18 yrs old is the youngest age allowed to
create and account. But since online education requires connectivity /
communication through facebook messenger, students below 18 create
accounts not knowing that this can also be harmful for them. They may
not be aware but opening unwanted links or files can result to their data
extraction without noticing and that is one of the reason why students
need guidance and monitoring while attending online classes.

Students are not the only one subjected to this data breach. In fact some
of teachers and adult are being scam in the internet. As said earlier,
clicking inappropriate links results to downloading virus, malicious
software or ransomware that have the ability to access your webcam,
processors, screen, files etc. This is very alarming and should be an eye
opener for those who use the internet for online schooling to be more
responsible whenever their use internet.

One way to avoid experiencing extraction of information was updating

patch and application itself, installing anti virus or use devices with
higher security features. Another thing is be mindful on what and where
you post your data, always read terms and condition of services before
agree, lastly was always update operating system and firmware of device
and application you are using. Internet and its application can be
harmful or useful depending on how you use it. But nowadays everyone
should be careful on the data they post on internet specially those who
are subjected to online education because they are more vulnerable to
scams and exploits due to limited knowledge to internet.
