ADSL TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

What is ADSL?

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL): is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voiceband modem can provide. It does this by utilizing frequencies that are not used by a voice telephone call. A splitter - or microfilter - allows a single telephone connection to be used for both ADSL service and voice calls at the same time. Because phone lines vary in quality and were not originally engineered with DSL in mind, it can generally only be used over short distances, typically less than 5km.

1-

AC POWER ADAPTER: Plug the ADAPTER into to wall electricity outlet and plug the connector to your ADSL router.

2- THE RESET MICRO SWITCH: This is used to reset the ADSL router to the default settings by pressing it for 7 sec then release … in case you have a problem opening the router interface page or you forgot the username and password required to open the interface page.

USB (Universal Serial Bus): It's to connect between your USB modem or router as shown in the figure and the USB port in your computer via the USB cable.

ADSL SPLITTER: ADSL filter is an analog low-pass filter installed between analog devices (such as telephones or analog modems) and a POTS telephone line, in order to prevent interference between such devices and a DSL service operating on the same line. Without DSL filters, signals or echoes from analog devices at the top of their frequency range can result in reduced performance and connection problems with DSL service, while those from the DSL service at the bottom of its range can result in line noise and other issues for analog devices.

The splitter has one input (LINE) and two outputs (PHONE, ADSL or Modem) here is how to connect it the right way:

1- (LINE) connect it to the main line direct from the box and if it's not possible connect it from the main wall telephone outlet.

2- (PHONE) connect it to the telephone device.

3- (ADSL or MODEM) connect it to your USB modem or Router.

7- RJ 45 & RJ 11: RJ 45 is the connector used for standard Ethernet cables, RJ 11 is the connector used for standard telephone wires.

How to RJ your own Ethernet cable and telephone wires:

Ethernet cable 100BASE-TX . 3- Tow RJ 45 connectors. Ethernet Cable Instructions: 1. Pull the cable

Ethernet Cable Instructions:

1.

Pull the cable off the reel to the desired length and cut. If you are pulling cables through holes, it's easier to attach the RJ-45 plugs after the cable is pulled. The total length of wire segments between a PC and a hub or between two PC's cannot exceed 100 Meters (328 feet) for 100BASE-TX and 300 Meters for 10BASE-T.

2. 3.
2.
3.

4.

Start on one end and strip the cable jacket off (about 1") using a stripper or a knife. Be extra careful not to nick the wires, otherwise you will need to start over.

Spread, untwist the pairs, and arrange the wires in the order of the desired cable end. Flatten the end between your thumb and forefinger. Trim the ends of the wires so they are even with one another, leaving only 1/2" in wire length. If it is longer than 1/2" it will be out-of-spec and susceptible to crosstalk. Flatten and insure there are no spaces between wires.

Hold the RJ-45 plug with the clip facing down or away from you. Push the wires firmly into the plug. Inspect each wire is flat even at the front of the plug. Check the order of the wires. Double check again. Check that the jacket is fitted right against the stop of the plug. Carefully hold the wire and firmly crimp the RJ-45 with the crimper.

5. Check the color orientation, check that the crimped connection is not about to come apart, and check to see if the wires are flat against the front of the plug. If even one of these is incorrect, you will have to start over. Test the Ethernet cable.

NIC (Network Interface Card): in order to connect between the ADSL Router

and your computer via the Ethernet cable you must have a NIC installed in

your computer and ready to use.

9- USB (Universal Serial Bus): In order to connect the USB modem to your

computer via the USB cable you must have an USB port in your computer and

have the USB modem software to be ready to install it.

Line Physically Down troubleshooting:

1-

Make sure you are connecting your Network components correctly as shown in the above guide.
