This activity will how you spend 24 hours in a day.

Instructions: Using the matrix below, identify the activities that you do in a day.

You spend your day attending to your biological needs such as eating, sleeping and rest (EXISTENCE), attending
to your classes in school (SUBSISTENCE) and the time for enjoyment and relaxation (FREE TIME).

Now, pause for a minute and reflect on the following questions:

Students like you are faced with lots of things to do in a day. Many of your activities are less physically active
(passive) that you don’t need to exert extra effort and energy, but others are physically active that requires you to burn extra
calories. The activities that you voluntarily participate in during your free time are called RECREATION. Experts suggest
that in choosing your recreational activities, it should be of your interest and not of others. It should also be voluntary and
not pressured by somebody, and lastly it should meet your recreational satisfaction needs such as physiological,
educational, social, relaxation, physiological, and aesthetics. The less physically active activities that you are into bring
alarming effect to your health. Some of the activities today are sedentary in nature, requiring less energy consumption

According to the World Health Organization, the 4th leading cause of disease is inactivity. This is due to the
popularity of the technological gadgets that you are up to and the poor health lifestyle. Due to this alarming fact, you are
encouraged to switch into a more active lifestyle by means of engaging to active recreation.

Recreation
Anything that is stimulating and rejuvenating for an individual. Some people enjoys nature hikes, others are
mountain climbing. The idea behind this activities is to expand the mind and body in a positive and healthy way.
It relaxes your mind and body, it relieve your day to day tension, and it is the universal need of man.

Recreational Activities
 Revitalize all the different aspect of life (physical mental, social, and emotional). All activities are held for
everybody's fun and enjoyment Activities are done during free time. Relaxing the mind and the body, and the
activity that relieves a day-to-day tension.it also have fitness and health related benefits.
 Swimming and mountaineering are two popular activities that people do for rest and recreation.

Recreational activities are grouped into health- optimizing activities that help relieve stress:
1. Aquatics- swimming
2. Mountaineering
3. Martial Arts or Self-defense
4. Community Recreation

AQUATICS - swimming
 The example of aquatics recreational activities are: water polo, synchronized swimming, diving, surfing, sailing,
snorkeling.
 Swimming is both a form of sport and recreation.

MOUNTAINEERING
 Climb is the main activity of mountaineering, therefore a group needs to meet up for a pre-climb activity to discuss
all details of the climb such as the location, terrain, supplies, and roles of all members, joining the climb and the
after-climb activity for assessment and reporting.

2. Being responsible in tasks delegated to one’s person.

4. Being able to practice discipline when involved in an activity that need utmost care.

Martial arts or self-defense


 Martial arts training are engaging and interesting activities that promote health and teach self-defense. Intellect is
the greatest weapon of man and all living things have been equipped with a method of self-defense.

COMMUNITY RECREATION
 Involves a lot of light games that people with physical disabilities can participate in. Several board games are
taught. Gardening, nature walks, tai chi and yoga are the activities that prevent idleness and boredom and offer
productive use of time.

Based on what you have learned, choose one activity to help you promote recreational activity.

A. “JINGLE BELLS” (Musical Intelligence)


Imagine that your group is task by the Mayor to make a catchy jingle about the famous recreational park in your place. Include how
other people from the other place may enjoy your famous park. Include also the different unique features of the said park.

B. “POSTER AD” (Visual – Spatial Intelligence)


An advertisement is an effective instrument to present to the public certain ideas and viewpoints. Create a poster ad that
emphasizes the need to lifestyle change and encourage everyone to switch into a more active recreation.

C. “REFLECTING ON THE MIRROR” (Verbal–Linguistic Intelligence)


Reflect and focus on your thoughts and feelings about what you experience all throughout your life of your lifestyle. What
