1. Purpose:
United Energy Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd is committed to deliver its services in the
highest level of operating standards and to perform the job safely and effectively
by providing a quick access of the Drilling Operating Procedures to its staff.

2. Scope:
This procedure is placed as guidance for all rig staff to be able to conduct
Accumulator Drawdown Test to verify that the Accumulator System is able to
support the fluid volume and pressure requirements of the BOPs in use, to be
capable of securing the well in the event of total loss of power.

3. Definitions:
BOP: Blow Out Preventer

4. Responsibility:
 Tool Pusher, Driller, Assistant Driller

5. Tools & Equipment Required

 Full PPE
 High pressure lines
 Test pump with recorder
 Safety lines/ Chains
 Warning sign board

6. Procedure
6.1 HSE Consideration
 Keep working area clean.
 Ensure proper placement of hands and fingers.
 Barricade the testing area with Hazard/ Barrier tape.
 Inform all crew on the ongoing testing operation.

Doc Number: QA-PR-0000

 No work to be done on any connection under pressure. If remedial work
is to be done, all equipment needs to be bled-off to atmospheric pressure
 Ensure that all high pressure lines are fitted with a safety line or chain.
 Ensure that there is adequate lighting at work area, if working at night.
 Ensure that the work area is clean and tidy to avoid the tripping hazard.
 Clear communications are essential during testing procedure.
 Ensure that no person is in the immediate vicinity of components under
test pressure.
 All personnel are to be informed when testing is to take place.

6.2 Operational Consideration

 Conduct Toolbox Talk / Risk Assessment covering positioning and
equipment use.
 Ensure PTW is signed and all risks are discussed and mitigated.
 Ensure that the accumulator drawdown test is carried out under the
direct supervision of the Toolpusher or Night Toolpusher.
 Inspect all handling equipment condition, size, load and color coding.
 Working equipment should be clean and in good working condition.
 If at any time during the function test it is determined that repairs need
to be made to the accumulator, make sure that the accumulator pump has
been locked out and the back-up nitrogen system has been isolated and
locked out before the start of the work.

6.3 Work Instruction

6.3.1 Accumulator Drawdown Test

1) Prepare for function testing.

2) Pick up a drill pipe and secure it to the top drive.
3) Lower the drill pipe into the hole across the BOP with 1 m stick of drill
pipe above the slip table.
4) Ensure the accumulator pressure is reading zero.
5) Ensure the bleed-off valve is closed on the accumulator.
6) Turn on the accumulator and record the pre-charge pressure.

Doc Number: QA-PR-0000

7) Wait until the pressure has stabilized and the pump has shut off.
8) Read and record the starting pressure of the accumulator.
9) Turn off the accumulator recharge pump.
10) Close the annular and record the time to close the annular and the
pressure remaining.
11) Close the upper pipe rams and record the time to close the rams and
record the remaining pressure.
12) Close the lower pipe rams and record the time to close the rams and
record the remaining pressure.
13) Ensure that the blind rams are guarded throughout the three function
tests.
14) To simulate the closing of the blind ram, open the lower pipe ram.
Record the time to close the rams and record the remaining pressure.
15) Open the HCR and record the time needed to complete the function of
opening the HCR valve. Record the pressure remaining after the
functioning of all functions.
16) Visually inspect the BOP stack to make sure that all functions were
completed successfully.
17) Turn on the accumulator and record the time needed to recharge the
accumulator.
18) Document the times and pressures in the daily report.
19) Record the pressures of the nitrogen back-up cylinders.
20) Prepare to resume operations.
21) Clear the floor of all personnel.
22) Close the HCR valve.
23) Open the annular and pipe rams.
24) Driller must verify that pressures on the remote control panel for the
accumulator are the same pressures that are present at the accumulator.

6.3.2 Typical Format On Accumulator Draw Down Test

Rig # Well #
Operator Location

Procedure:
1. All Rams and Annular Open, HCR Shut
2. Close Air Supply to Air Pumps
3. Stop Electrical Pump
4. Record Pressure of Accumulator Bank PSI Target 3000 PSI
5. Regulated Manifold Pressure PSI Target 1500 PSI

Run Tubular into the Well (Minimum Diameter Pipe anticipated to be used, i.e 3 ½” DP)
Close Annular BOP Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Close Upper Variable / Pipe Rams Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Close Lower Variable / Pipe Rams Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Open Upper Variable / Pipe Rams Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Open Lower Variable / Pipe Rams Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Open Annular BOP Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Open HCR Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Remove Tubular from the Well
Close Shear Rams Time Sec Remaining Pressure PSI
Record Final Manifold Pressure PSI Needs to be more than 1200 PSI
Did Low Accumulator Pressure Sound Yes No PSI
Did Low Air Pressure Alarm Sound Yes No PSI
Response Time Annular & Ram Preventers Less than 30 Sec ? Yes No
Open the Shear Rams and Close HCR. Switch on Air & Electrical Pump
Recharge Accumulator Banks Min Target <15 Min.
Check Control Lines with 3000 PSI Operating Pressure. Install Tubular into the Well. Operate By Pass
to put 3000 PSI on Manifold. Close and Open Pipe Rams and HCR (Also Kill Line HCR if fitted) from
the Remote Panel. Remove Tubular from Well. Close and Open Shear Ram whilst still in Bypass
Mode. Look for leaks on BOP’s and Hoses when carrying out above tests. Reset Bypass back to
working position.
