(1) How many kilograms of ethane are there in 220 kgmol?

(2) Calculate the weight percentage of nitrogen in 1 mole of urea (NH2CONH2).

(3) How many moles of H2SO4 will contain 64 kg of S?

(4) How many kg of carbon are present in 80 kg of methane?

(5) 196 grams of sulphuric acid (H2SO4) are dissolved in water to prepare one litre of solution.
Determine solutions (i) normality, (ii) molarity and (iii) molality.

(6) 10 g of caustic soda are dissolved in water to prepare 500 ml of solution. Calculate its (i)
normality, (ii) molarity and (iii) molality.

(7) An aqueous solution of sodium chloride is prepared by dissolving 20 kg of NaCl in 100 kg of


water. Calculate weight and mole % of NaOH and H2O in the solution.

(8) The strength of aqueous solution of soda ash is specified as 15% Na2O by weight. Express the
composition in terms of weight per cent soda ash.

(9) An industrial-strength drain cleaner contains 5.00 kg of water and 5.00 kg of NaOH. What are the
mass (weight) fraction and mole fraction of each component in the drain cleaner?

(10) A sample of water contains 2000 ppm solids. Find the concentration of solids by weight percentage.

(11) A liquid stream flowing at 100 g/min contains 0.3 mole fraction benzene (M w = 78) and the
balance 0.7 mole fraction toluene (Mw = 92). Calculate the molar flow rate of each component in the
stream.

(12) The analysis of the gas sample is given below (volume basis): CH 4 = 66%, CO2 = 30%, NH3 =
4%. Calculate: (i) The average molecular weight of the gas (ii) The density of the gas at 2 atm and
303 K.

(13) A H2SO4 solution has a molarity of 12 and molality of 96. Calculate the density of solution.
(14) A solution in water contains 1.704 kg of HNO3/kg H2O, and the solution has a specific gravity of
1.382 at 20°C. How many kilograms of HNO3 per cubic meter of solution at 20°C are there?

(15) A mixture of gas has the following composition by volume: Methane = 80%, Ethane = 12% and
Nitrogen = 8%. Calculate:

(i) The composition of gas by weight%.


(ii) Average molecular weight.
(iii) Density of the gas mixture at 30°C and 750 mmHg.
(iv) Specific gravity.

(16) A mixture of CH4 and C2H6 has the average molecular weight 22.4. Find mole% of CH4 and C2H6
in the mixture.

(17) In the production of a drug having a molecular weight of 192, the exit stream from the reactor
containing water and the drug flows at the rate of 10.5 L/min. The drug concentration is 41.2%
(in water), and the specific gravity of the solution is 1.024. Calculate the concentration of the drug
(in kilograms per liter) in the exit stream, and the flow rate of the drug in kilogram moles per
minute.
