PREFACE

This Self-Learning Kit (SLK) will help you deepen your understanding on how to properly

install and configure computer system particularly in order to prepare installer. This material

consists of competencies which will enable you to follow the step-by-step procedure in

creating a portable bootable device in accordance with software manufacturer instruction.

This material is intended specifically for Junior and Senior High School Information and

Communication Technology (ICT) – Computer Systems Servicing (CSS) students who need

remediation and willing to learn in self-paced mode.

In order to become successful in using this Self-Learning Kit (SLK) and for you to be

able to achieve its objectives, kindly consider the following tips: handle this SLK carefully;

do not write anything on any part of this SLK; use a separate sheet of paper in answering

any given activity; and once you were done answering the given activity, perform a self-

check of your activities honestly and find out the given descriptors in the progress chart

which is available at the later part of this SLK.

At the end of the lesson, with at least 80% level of proficiency, you should be able to:

1. identify the different requirements needed in creating a bootable USB flash drive;

2. express appreciation in creating bootable USB flash drive by organizing them according

to the proper steps; and

3. determine the processes involved in creating USB flash drive in accordance with

software manufacturer instruction through recognizing its procedures.

Before you proceed, check first your prior knowledge about PC BIOS.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW?

Before you proceed, you have to consider the things that you need in Installing

Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit (using bootable flash drive):

•Flash Drive - recommended size is 8gb. The USB flash drive should be at least 8 gigabytes in

space so that it can accommodate most operating system installation files.

•RUFUS - bootable flash drive creator. This can easily be downloaded through Rufus website

or you may simply download it here - https://rufus.ie/

•Image file of Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit

•Computer compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit

Now that you are familiar with the needed things before installing Windows 7 Ultimate

x64bit (using bootable flash drive), it’s now time for you to learn the step-by-step procedures in

creating portable bootable devices in accordance with software manufacturer instruction.

STEPS IN CREATING BOOTABLE USB FLASH DRIVE

1. Insert a USB flash drive into a running computer.

2. Save the image file of Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit and Rufus inside a new folder.

3. Right Click on Rufus and click OK.

4. On this step, make sure of the following:

*Device selected must be *In the Partition scheme

important file is save on that flash drive.

7. Creating file system. Here, you will just simply wait until the next screen appear.

8. This time, copying ISO files will prompt on the next screen. Just wait here until the setup
finish.

9. When the setup finished the tasks, simply click CLOSE.

10. You may now safely remove the flash drive from your system.

ACTIVITY 3

Instructions: In a given selection, you have to arrange the different processes involved

in creating USB flash drive. Write the correct sequence number (STEP#1-10) corresponding

to each selection on a separate sheet of paper.

STEP#_______ A. Save the image file of Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit and Rufus inside a new

folder

STEP#_______ B. Click Start and Click Ok if the warning dialog box appear. Make sure that

What is a bootable flash drive? Do you know how to create one?


Creating bootable flash drive has different procedures that ICT-CSS students
like you must follow in accordance with software manufacturer instruction. In order
to create a bootable flash drive, you have to consider somethings that are needed
particularly in installing the Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit (using bootable flash drive). This
SLK will surely guide you to become knowledgeable of the step-by-step procedures
in creating bootable device.

Education as Gurong Iskolar ng Bataan at Bataan Peninsula State University. Finished
