Parents and students, please initial by each X and return for grade by August 20-21.

WELCOME! You are invited to become a member of Tiger Theatre Troupe. Watching
productions is a part of your grade. There are many opportunities to work and learn
about creating theatre, and see shows for FREE.______X

Theatre Tech I – overview of theatre arts, basic tech skills and safety, and
stagecraft, participation in productions throughout the year______X

COURSE CONTENT – Each course has a specific content but shares the four basic
strands as listed in the TEKS – Perception, Creative Expression & Performance,
Historical and Cultural Heritage, and Critical Evaluation. Students must also master
these critical theatre /life skills:

-Concentration – the ability to focus mentally and physically on a particular task

-Coordination – the ability to control and organize physical action and thought

-Communication – the ability to send and receive messages (oral, written, verbal,
non-verbal) in order to create and share meanings—the very soul of human
experience and art

-Cooperation – the ability to work with others toward a common goal

-Creative Thinking – the ability to manipulate, re-organize, change, and extend


acquired knowledge in order to bring about something new

-Critical Thinking – the ability to develop and use appropriate standards for
judgment and evaluation

-Collaboration – the ability to work jointly with others to create a product, each
bringing to the group a particular expertise and each being credited _____X

GRADING – Students will earn grades in 5 areas that will fall into 3 grading areas:

1)Process (assesses the thoughtful preparation for, sustained attention to, and
successful completion of daily activities, including in-class assignments, rehearsal
goals or homework) _____X

2)Journal (assesses written responses to a variety of theatrical elements to develop


critical analysis of artistic intent and expand the student’s historical and cultural
resources while fulfilling the requirement for writing across the curriculum) _____X

3)Performance/Design (scenes, monologues, projects, play performance) _____X

4) Written Work (chapter reviews, outlines, essays, play reviews, research) _____X

GRADE CALCULATION –

Engagement (Participation)- 20% (process, warm-ups, written work)

Content Understanding (Formative)– 40% (journals, performance/design, major written


work)

Content Mastery (Summative)-40% (tests, play attendance, reviews, crew work)

MAKE UP WORK is the responsibility of the student, who should obtain work and/or
arrange for tutoring or retesting at the convenience of the teacher. Alternate
assignments may be used. Students have five school days from the time the assignment
is entered into the gradebook to make-up the assignment. _____X

Also, any grade that is below a 70% from any category may be re-done and averaged for
a higher grade. _____X

SUPPLIES-Students will need their assigned laptop for notes, journals, and handouts. ____X

TARDIES-Late students will be marked tardy, and will follow the school current tardy policy when it
comes to consequences. ___X

DISCIPLINE- Students are expected to follow all school rules as well as Tiger Theatre Guidelines as well
as the EPHS Student Code of Conduct. __X

Students who choose NOT to contribute to a positive learning environment earn a


parent phone call and/or a referral. Frequents disruptions may result in permanent
removal. _____X

Extra Credit- Extra credit will periodically given through performance attendance, EPHS theatre twitter
account, Remind, and the EPHS theatre website. Extra credit is available to all students.

Students MUST attend one Tiger Theatre production per nine weeks when
avaiable—the subsequent review that is written counts as a Performance grade, and
students receive extra credit for attending EPHS plays and more than one play per nine
weeks. Students may purchase a ticket (typically $4,) or get in to shows for FREE by
signing up to work house crew for one performance per show.____X
